LORETTO, Pa. (Jan. 31, 2015) – Saint Francis U trailed the majority of the game, but nearly orchestrated a comeback against Fairleigh Dickinson on Saturday afternoon inside DeGol Arena. SFU was beaten by the Knights, 78-65.
Aisha Brock (Jacksonville, Fla./Potter's House Christian Academy) led the way for the Red Flash with 16 points, the junior guard knocked down four 3-pointers and added six assists.
Maya Wynn (Reisterstown, Md./McDonogh) scored 13 points, while Northeast Conference Player of the Week
Corissa Archer (Clermont, Fla./East Ridge) added 10.
Cydney Smith (Port Tobacco, Md./St. Mary's Ryken) posted 10 rebounds in her start, tying her career-high.
Fairleigh Dickinson shot nearly 50% from the field and outscored SFU, 41-31, in the second half.
Saint Francis faced an 11-4 deficit right off the bat before eight straight Brock points put SFU back within one with 12:09 to go in half one. The Knights extended their lead to as much as nine in the opening frame, but the Flash had in back within one after a triple of
Taylor Allison (State College, Pa./State College) at the 3:44 mark.
FDU had a five-point advantage readied for halftime until
Hope Phillips (Marlton, N.J./Bishop Eustace Prep) scored a basket at the buzzer for Saint Francis. FDU led 37-34 at the break.
Back-to-back three-pointers by Wynn and Brock put Saint Francis ahead for the first time since the opening basket. The lead sustained for five minutes or so until FDU regained it at the 12:37 mark for good.
Fairleigh Dickinson led by just two with 6:25 to go, but quickly extended its advantage to 15 after a 15-2 run.
Rochelle Reece (Ajax, Ontario, Canada/Pickering) posted five points and five assists off the bench for SFU, while Phillips finished with six boards. FDU was aided by Erika Livermore and Kelsey Cruz, each had 23 points.
SFU caused 17 FDU turnovers, while only committing 10, their lowest total of the conference season.
Saint Francis hosts Bryant on Monday evening for a 7 p.m. contest. The Bulldogs bested the Flash on Jan. 12 in Rhode Island, 87-83.Â
