LORETTO, Pa. (Jan. 9, 2015) – Saint Francis U makes the trip to Connecticut to play Sacred Heart on Saturday in a meeting of two squads that are 1-1 in Northeast Conference Play.
Â
The Red Flash lost its league opener to Wagner, but rebounded to handle defending conference champion Robert Morris on Monday. The Pioneers also hosted both games in the opening weekend, besting St. Francis Brooklyn then losing to Central Connecticut.
Â
Who could forget the last time SFU and SHU met? It was a very important game for both teams inside DeGol Arena for the NEC Quarterfinals. Saint Francis won 132-124 in a double-overtime thriller, which also happened to be the second highest NCAA women's basketball game ever.
Â
These two schools have created quite a rivalry after meeting in each of the past two NEC Tournaments and providing some entertainment to say the least.
Â
Despite its recent success against the Sacred Heart in the NEC Playoffs, the Red Flash has lost its last eight regular season meetings in Fairfield, which dates back to the 2004-05 season.
Â
SFU will travel to Bryant after this match-up for a 7 p.m. tip-off on Monday.
