LORETTO, PA-Â The Saint Francis women's basketball team tips off the 2015-16 home season with the Pitt Panthers on Monday evening at 7 P.M. at Degol Arena.Â
The game will be broadcasted live on 1400 WWGE with Curt Lowe on the play-by-play and live video on NEC Front Row with Lowe's audio feed.Â
ABOUT THE FLASHThe Flash dropped a 93-86 decision at the Cincinnati Bearcats on Saturday at 5/3 Arena in the Queen City. SFU led for most of the contest, but a late fourth quarter surge by the Bearcats secured the victory. Saint Francis was led by
reigning NEC Freshman of the Week Madison Johnson who dropped 18 points in 17 minutes of action on Saturday. She connected on 7 of 8 shots from the field and all four free throws. Fellow freshman
Jessica Kovatch (Phillipsburg, N.J./Phillipsburg) had 16 while
Samiah Bethel (Jacksonville, Fla./Potter's House Christian Academy) had 15 and
Katie Reese (Boonton Township, N.J./Mountain Lakes) 11 points and seven assists to lead a balanced offensive attack. That balance has been a trend through the exhibition and the UC game, as SFU put four players in double figures both times.Â
ABOUT THE PANTHERSA young team, the Panthers bring a team with no seniors and just two juniors to Loretto. This will be the Panthers second-straight NEC opponent, having defeated Wagner 67-41 on Friday afternoon in Pittsburgh. Aysia Bugg led the Panthers with 12 points and four assists in the win over the Seahawks. The Panthers played tough defense on Friday, holding Wagner to just 34 percent shooting and 25 percent from beyond the arc. In the pre-season media poll, the Panthers were picked 10th at ACC media day.Â
SERIES HISTORYPitt leads the all-time series 8-3, including a 97-59 victory over SFU last season in Pittsburgh. The last time Pitt came to Loretto was in December of 2010 when SFU knocked off the Panthers 85-71.Â
LOOKING AHEADSaint Francis stays at home for a Wednesday contest with Coastal Carolina. It will be Team IMPACT Super Hero Night with prizes and a raffle with proceeds benefitting Team IMPACT. Tip-time is set for 7 P.M.
