Millaud-Meunier’s Career-High 32 Leads Flash to Win

LORETTO, Pa. – Ben Millaud-Meunier (Montreal, Quebec/Vanier) scored a career-high 32 points and four Red Flash players scored in double figures as Saint Francis defeated Westminster, 103-72, on Tuesday night at DeGol Arena. Junior Malik Harmon (Queens, N.Y./Christ the King) set a career high with his nine assists to go along with 19 points.

Saint Francis (1-1) jumped all over the Titans at the start of the contest as the Flash raced out to a 25-7 lead. Harmon and Millaud-Meunier each hit a three to give the Flash a 6-0 lead less than two minutes into the game. After Westminster scored the next five points, SFU used a 15-0 run to distance itself from the Titans. Harmon had a three, Basil Thompson (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep Charter) had a dunk, and Isaiah Blackmon (Charlotte, N.C./West Charlotte) and Patrick Wrencher (West Chester, Ohio/Archbishop Moeller) each had layups as part of the run that last just under four minutes.

Westminster (0-2) fought back. After Millaud-Meunier hit two free throws to make it 31-14 with 10:06 to play in the half, Westminster went on a 13-0 run that included three three-pointers to make it 31-27 with 6:32 remaining. Another three-pointer by Jarret Vrabel with 4:37 left cut the lead to two, 39-37, but the Titans would come no closer. SFU extended the lead with the help of a 13-0 run. In this stretch, it was two three-pointers from Millaud-Meunier and another from Harmon that paced the Flash. Millaud-Meunier had 19 points in the first half, and Harmon had 15. Of Westminster's 39 first-half points, 31 came off the bench.

The Flash continued the pressure to open the second half. Saint Francis scored 15 of the first 17 points in the second to open a 67-41 lead on Josh Nebo (Katy, Texas/Cypress Lakes)'s layup with 14:36 to play. Nebo earned his first career double-digit rebound game in just his second collegiate game, finishing with 10 boards.

Head coach Rob Krimmel said that his biggest positive from Tuesday's victory was the team's focus and energy to start each half.

"If you go back and look at the Notre Dame game, it was the same thing," he said. "That focus is there to start, we just need to maintain that focus over the course of an entire half and game."

The Flash's 103 points are the most since matching that total in a 103-79 victory over LIU Brooklyn in Feb. 1994. Along with Millaud-Meunier's 32 points, he tied his career-high with six rebounds, and set a career-high with five steals. His previous high in points came against Fairleigh Dickinson in 2013 with 26. The five steals are just one away from moving into a tie for fifth place on the school's single-game steals list.

Thompson's 15 points set a new career mark, topping his 13 against Fairleigh Dickinson last season. He also had four blocks. Blackmon had a great game, as well, in his first collegiate action. He finished with 14 points, seven rebounds, three steals and two assists. Ronnie Drinnon (Jamestown, Ohio/Greenview) just missed a double-double with nine points and eight rebounds.

"One of our goals is to protect DeGol Arena and protect home court," Krimmel said. "It was our first opportunity to do that. Anytime you can walk out of a game with more points than the other team, you have an opportunity to build on some things."

Saint Francis will now look to Saturday's game against American at DeGol Arena. The time for that game has changed to 7 p.m.
