GAME NOTES-SFU
BUFFALO, N.Y.- Saint Francis takes back to the road again this weekend, opening a two-game road trip in Buffalo against the Canisius Golden Griffins on Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Koessler Athletic Center.
The game will be aired on
ESPN 3 as part of the Metro-Atlantic Network and
live stats will be available courtesy of the Canisius Athletic Communication department.
ABOUT THE FLASHThe Flash are coming off of an impressive 106-74 victory over the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers on Wednesday night.
Jessica Kovatch (Phillipsburg, N.J./Phillipsburg) set an SFU freshman record with 30 points on 11-20 shooting in the contest, leading four players in double figures. Saint Francis forced 29 turnovers, leading to 33 points and the Red Flash scored an impressive 48 points on the fast break. The 106 points were the most since March of 2014 when SFU outlasted Sacred Heart 132-124 in double overtime in the NEC quarterfinals. The game on Saturday is the third for Saint Francis this week and part of their five games in 10 day stretch to open the season.
ABOUT THE GOLDEN GRIFFINSCanisius comes into the contest at 0-2 on the young season with losses at Youngstown State and cross-town rival Buffalo. This will be the home opener for Canisius this season. Look for the Griffins to try to slow the game down, as they are averaging just 45.5 points per game in the two losses, while allowing 53. Margret Halfdanardottir leads the team through two games, averaging just over 10 points per game. Crystal Porter leads the team with eight rebounds per game, but Canisius has been out rebounded by an average of nine boards per game. Both teams have similar stats shooting the ball, with both teams shooting 38 percent from the field and 29 percent from three point range.
SERIES HISTORYCanisius leads the all-time series 4-2 with the Griffins winning the last four. This is the backend of a home-and-home series. Canisius came back to defeat SFU 87-74 in Loretto on November 30, 2014.
LOOKING AHEADSaint Francis will stay on the road on Monday, traveling to Ithaca to take on the Cornell Big Red for a 6 p.m. tip.
