PRINCESS ANNE, Md. -
The Saint Francis men's basketball team finishes the month of November with a trip to Maryland Eastern Shore on Friday for a 4 p.m. tip-off. Saint Francis enters the contest at 2-2, but it has lost each of its first two road games. The Red Flash will look to change that on Friday when it heads to UMES. The Hawks enter the contest with an 0-4 record, but two of those losses came at Kansas State and Missouri.

The Red Flash had its two-game winning streak snapped Tuesday night at Kent State, 79-60. Greg Brown (Odenton, Md./Archbishop Spalding) led SFU with 21 points, including 16 in the first half. Freshman center Josh Nebo (Katy, Texas/Cypress Lakes) recorded his second consecutive double-digit scoring performance with 11 points against the Golden Flashes.

NOTES FROM KENT STATE

  • Greg Brown (Odenton, Md./Archbishop Spalding) scored a season-high 21 points, including 16 in the first half. That topped his previous season high of 15 at Notre Dame. Brown also hit a career-high three three-pointers.
  • Josh Nebo (Katy, Texas/Cypress Lakes) scored a season/career-high 11 points on two field goals and seven free throws.
  • Malik Harmon (Queens, N.Y./Christ the King) tied his career high by grabbing six rebounds for the third time in his career.
  • Despite playing a smaller lineup than KSU, SFU lost the rebounding battle by just three, 40-37.
  • Georgios Angelou (Halkida, Greece/Lykeio Kanithou) set a new career high with four rebounds.
  • The Red Flash won the battle of second-chance points for the third time in its first four games. SFU had won the previous two games in which it won that statistic.
  • A game after using a 23-0 run in its win over American, Saint Francis endured a 13-0 run midway through the first half against Kent State that turned a tie score into a 23-10 lead for the Kent State.

LOOKING FOR WIN NO. 3 IN NOVEMBER

Prior to last season, the Red Flash had won three games in the month of November just one time, in 1997-98. Saint Francis matched that feat last season, and it make it the third time with a victory over UMES on Friday. Last season, the Hawks were one of the three teams that SFU defeated in the month of November, joining Keystone and Navy. The Red Flash won last year's game at DeGol Arena, 57-53.

FLASH DEFENSE TOPS IN NORTHEAST CONFERENCE

  • The Red Flash leads the Northeast Conference with a defensive field goal percentage of 40.3.
  • Saint Francis held Kent State to 5-for-18 from three-point range on Tuesday, and the Flash lowered its league-leading three-point defense to 28.0 percent from beyond the arc.
  • The Flash is also the leading rebounding team in the NEC, averaging 41 boards per game.

KRIMMEL INTO 10th PLACE ON WINS LIST

Head coach Rob Krimmel moved into 10th place on the Saint Francis wins list with his 33rd career victory on Saturday over American. Krimmel passed his predecessor, Don Friday, to move into the top-10. Friday coached the Flash from 2008-12 and finished with 32 victories. Krimmel is now nine wins behind Kevin Porter for ninth place. Porter came back to coach the Flash from 1983-87 following an outstanding playing career in Loretto. He had 42 wins in his four years.

POSTSEASON SUCCESS

Last season, the Red Flash became the first team in school history to reach the Northeast Conference Tournament semifinals for the second consecutive season. In each of those two seasons, however, the Flash fell to the top-seeded team. Two years ago, SFU lost at Robert Morris, 60-57. Last season, SFU fell to St. Francis Brooklyn, 62-48. Despite the loss, Saint Francis still earned a bid to the CIT. In a first-round game, the Flash hosted Bowling Green. In that contest, the lead changed hands 13 times and the score was tied on eight occasions before the Falcons left Loretto with a 67-64 victory.

FLASH POINTS

  • The Red Flash will face longtime rival Duquesne at the Cambria County War Memorial in Johnstown, Pa., on Dec. 12. The two teams have a long history in that building, including a Red Flash win over the second-ranked Dukes in 1955.
  • Saint Francis is scheduled to play two games on national television in 2015-16. SFU will face No. 2 Maryland on Big Ten Network on Dec. 4. SFU will also face NEC rival Robert Morris on ESPNU on Feb. 11.

ABOUT UMES

The Hawks enter Friday's game with an 0-4 record after losing its home opener to Fairfield on Tuesday, 113-74. UMES also opened the season with road losses at Kansas State, Missouri and Wofford. Devin Martin and Bakari Copeland lead the Hawks in scoring, averaging 13.5 and 12.0 points, respectively.

LOOKING AHEAD

Saint Francis returns home to face Lehigh next Wednesday before playing at No. 2 Maryland next Friday night. UMES returns to the road for its next seven games following Friday's contest with the Red Flash. Among the opponents on the extended road trip include Georgetown, Michigan State and Maryland.

SERIES HISTORY

The teams have met five times with the Red Flash winning all five games. Although SFU is 5-0 in the series, just one of the games happened in recent history. Last year, the Flash defeated UMES, 57-53, in November.
