Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Barry Beal

Flash Tops Binghamton, 67-61

VESTAL, N.Y. – After playing seven straight games with results in double digits to open the season, the Saint Francis men's basketball team played its second straight close game on Tuesday night at Binghamton. Saint Francis earned its first road win of the season with a 67-61 victory. Ronnie Drinnon (Jamestown, Ohio/Greenview) had a season-high 16 rebounds to go along with 11 points for his third double-double of the season.

At one point early in the second half, Drinnon had 13 rebounds. As a team, Binghamton also had 13 rebounds. That came just after Drinnon's layup gave the Flash its largest lead of the game to that point, 39-31, with 16:25 remaining. The SFU lead touched double digits on a handful of occasions and topped out at 11 after a Ben Millaud-Meunier (Montreal, Quebec/Vanier) free throw with 10:53 remaining. He finished with a team-high 16 points.

After a first half that saw the lead change seven times and the score tied seven times, it was just a matter of time until Binghamton cut back into that deficit in the second. A layup by Thomas Bruce with 2:16 to play whittled the lead back down to four points, 61-57. After a Flash turnover, Drinnon got a steal and Josh Nebo (Katy, Texas/Cypress Lakes) finished the sequence with a dunk. On the very next possession, he preserved the six-point lead with a huge block. He had three blocks on the night, and he scored a new high of 13 points including the Flash's first seven points of the game.

A three pointer from Dusan Perovic cut the lead to three, 64-61, with 35 seconds to play. SFU made three of its final four free throws down the stretch, though, to prevent Binghamton from having an offensive possession with a chance to tie or take the lead in the ending sequence.

Saint Francis (4-5) came into the game as the leaders in three point defense at 31.1 percent, and it helped that number by limiting Binghamton to just 5-for-21 (23.8 percent) for the game. Drinnon came just two rebounds shy of matching his career high of 18 from the Flash's NEC quarterfinal victory at Bryant during the 2013-14 season. It was his 37th career double-digit rebounding game. Greg Brown (Odenton, Md./Archbishop Spalding) also added eight points, four assists, three rebounds and two steals.

Saint Francis found itself in foul trouble early and throughout the night, but it received 17 valuable minutes from Georgios Angelou (Halkida, Greece/Lykeio Kanithou), who had a season-high six points and two assists. Basil Thompson (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep Charter) also had another quality outing in 18 minutes off the bench. He finished with nine points and six rebounds.

The Red Flash continues with another road game against an America East opponent on Saturday night at Albany at 7 p.m.
