Commissioner's Cup Standings
LORETTO, Pa. – Saint Francis is in first place in the Brenda Weare Commissioner's Cup standings through the Fall season. The Red Flash has 61.03 total points, including an NEC-leading 33.89 points in men's sports. SFU is fourth in women's sports, with 27.14 points.
The Commissioner's Cup is given at the end of the 2015-16 year to the Northeast Conference team that has accumulated the most points. Schools earn points based on their finish in the conference standings or championships in each sport.
The Red Flash earned its most points for men's soccer's second-place finish. The team went 11-5-4 overall, including 5-2 in conference play. The Red Flash reached the championship game at the NEC Tournament, but fell on penalty kicks against LIU Brooklyn. Senior defender Francis de Vries earned NSCAA All-American honors.
Saint Francis football also finished second in the NEC. The Red Flash went 7-4 overall, including 4-2 in conference games. SFU earned its first winning record since 1992 and reached seven wins for the fifth time in program history. SFU also had a winning record in conference play for the first time since joining the NEC. Chris Villarrial was named NEC Coach of the Year, while nine players were named All-NEC, including six on the First Team. Kicker Lance Geesey and kick returner Lorenzo Jerome were selected as All-Americans. The AFCA and Athletics Directors Association named Geesey an All-American, while STATS FCS named Jerome an All-American.
The women's soccer team finished fourth in the NEC, reaching the conference tournament. The Red Flash went 4-3-1 in conference play. Four players were named All-NEC, with Gabi Morales earning First Team accolades.
Saint Francis women's cross country placed fourth at the NEC Championships. Sophomore Morgan Kiebler, freshman Angel Barber and sophomore Danae Peters all finished in the Top 20.
The men's cross country team also placed fourth in the conference. Sophomore Bryce England earned a third-place finish at the NEC Championships.
The Red Flash women's volleyball team won six matches this season, including four in the NEC.
In addition to the success on the field, the Red Flash was also successful in the classroom, with a combined 3.284 GPA for the Fall semester, the highest GPA for a semester on record. SFU student-athletes reached a 3.0 GPA for the 34th consecutive semester. A total of 405 student-athletes earned a 3.0 or higher.
