Women’s Golf Picked Second in NEC Preseason Poll

SOMERSET, N.J. (Feb. 16, 2015) – The Saint Francis University women's golf team was picked to finish second in the Northeast Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll, the Red Flash received two first-place votes.

"We are happy to be recognized for the great fall season we had. We will use this for motivation to continue to work hard and accomplish our goal of winning the NECs," said 2014 NEC Coach of the Year Mary Kate Williams.

Saint Francis U is looking to spoil LIU's attempt at a fourth straight title. SFU's coach Williams guided the Red Flash to a second-place finish at the NEC Championship in just her second year in at the helm.

SFU posted its best tournament finish since 2007 and improved three spots from its fifth place finish in 2013.

Williams will rely on a pair of All-Conference returnees in Taylar Jaramillo (Belen, N.M./Belen) (first team) and Mallory Cortis (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg Area) (second team). Jaramillo, a junior, posted six top-ten finishes in nine events. Cortis, a senior, placed fifth at the 2014 NEC championship, the highest individual finish for the Red Flash.

LIU Brooklyn earned five of a possible seven first-place votes and was picked atop of the league after winning its third consecutive NEC Championship last season.

Saint Francis starts the spring portion of its 2014-15 schedule on March 9-10 at the Lonnie Barton Invitational hosted by LIU Brooklyn in Daytona Beach, Fla.
