Men's Hoops Returns Favor at FDU Thursday

The Saint Francis Red Flash completes the back end of a home-and-home series against Fairleigh Dickinson on Thursday night in a game televised on Fox College Sports and on MSG. For those without access to those stations, the game will still be shown online via NEC Front Row. Tip is set for 9:00 p.m.

The Red Flash and Knights played a tight game at DeGol Arena on Saturday afternoon in a 68-63 SFU victory. Dominique Major (Woodbridge, Va./Forest Park) hit a three pointer to give the Flash the lead with 1:32 to play.

Earl Brown (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep Charter) had his sixth double-double of the season, finishing with game-highs in points (18) and rebounds (12). Greg Brown (Odenton, Md./Archbishop Spalding) had 12 points and Major finished with 10 points, all in the second half.

THREE THINGS TO KNOW
1. This is the second home-and-home of the season for the Flash. SFU swept back-to-back games with Sacred Heart in January.
2. Prior to the Sacred Heart games, the Flash last played a home-and-home during the 2004-05 season, also against Sacred Heart.
3. Freshman Basil Thompson (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep Charter) had career highs with 13 points and seven rebounds against FDU.

NEC'S TOP DEFENSE
The Red Flash continues to sport the top defense in the Northeast Conference. SFU is allowing just 64 points per game. Four of Saint Francis' last five opponents have scored less than 64 points.

TOP-HEAVY SCHEDULE
The Red Flash currently sits in a tie for fourth place in the NEC with Mount St. Mary's and Wagner. All three teams carry 6-4 records into this weekend. But the Flash has played seven of its first 10 games against teams currently with winning conference records. The Flash lost to NEC-leading St. Francis Brooklyn on a buzzer beater and also lost at The Mount. Return matches with those teams happen later in February. SFU is 2-1 against second-place holders Robert Morris and Bryant, and the Flash split with Wagner.

DIME DROPPERS
The Red Flash averages 11.9 assists per game, good for the middle of the pack in the NEC. But the entire team is adept at spreading the wealth. Saint Francis has three of the top-15 assist men in the conference. Greg Brown (Odenton, Md./Archbishop Spalding) is 10th, Malik Harmon (Queens, N.Y./Christ the King) is 11th and Earl Brown (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep Charter) is 15th. The trio combines to average just over seven assists per game.

STRONG AT THE STRIPE...
Saint Francis had one of its strongest games of the season at the free throw line in the win over Fairleigh Dickinson on Saturday. The Flash shot 75.9 percent (22-for-29) from the stripe, including making seven in the final 2:31 to seal the victory. Basil Thompson (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep Charter) had seven of his 13 points from the line.

...AND LESS RELIANCE ON THE THREE
Saint Francis made just six three pointers in the win over the Knights. That marked a season-low for the Flash in a game that it ended up winning. The win moved the Flash to 4-8 in games in which it hits seven or fewer from beyond the arc. The Flash is 8-1 in games in which it hits at least eight from downtown.

BROWN LEADING THE CONFERENCE FROM THE FIELD
Earl Brown (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep Charter) went 6-for-9 in each of the Red Flash's wins last week, bumping his shooting percentage to 53.5 percent. Not only does Brown continue to lead the Northeast Conference in that category, he has jumped to 43rd in the nation in that category.

HALFTIME ADVANTAGE
The Flash led Fairleigh Dickinson by three points at halftime on Saturday, and the team held on for a five-point win. The win moved the Flash to 11-1 in games in which it leads at the break. The lone loss came when St. Francis Brooklyn used a buzzer beater to beat the Flash at DeGol Arena on Jan. 18. That is also the Flash's only loss at home this season. SFU is 8-1 at DeGol Arena.

RED FLASH ON TV
Thursday's game begins at 9:00 p.m. to accomodate a national television audience on Fox College Sports and a regional audience on MSG. It marks the first of two late starts for the Flash in the final month of the season. SFU's game at Central Connecticut on Feb. 19 will also begin at 9:00 p.m.
