BROOKLYN – After a late night Thursday in a 64-60 victory over Fairleigh Dickinson, the Saint Francis Red Flash finishes its road trip at LIU Brooklyn on Saturday afternoon. Tip time is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
The Red Flash completed a home-and-home sweep of Fairleigh Dickinson on the strength of
Earl Brown (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep Charter). He finished with his seventh double-double of the season, scoring a game-high 20 points and pulling down a game-high 14 rebounds. The Flash held Fairleigh Dickinson to just 39.3 percent from the field and 25 percent from beyond the arc.
THREE THINGS TO KNOW1.
Malik Harmon (Queens, N.Y./Christ the King) had seven assists, a new career high. He also added 13 points, second behind Brown for the night.
2. The Flash forced a season-high 20 turnovers against the Knights on Thursday and converted them into 21 points.
3.
Greg Brown (Odenton, Md./Archbishop Spalding) filled the stat sheet with six points, four assists, three rebounds and two steals.
BROWN BOARDSEarl Brown (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep Charter) had a season-high 14 rebounds against the Knights on Thursday, setting himself up for his seventh double-double of the season and second in less than a week against FDU with his 20 points. Brown had his third double-digit rebounding effort in four games. He also entered the game as the NEC's leader in field goal percentage, and he again raised that average on Thursday. Brown entered with a 53.5 shooting percentage, and his 9-for-14 against FDU put his season percentage over 54 percent.
POUNDING IT INSIDEThe Red Flash couldn't buy a trip to the free throw line on Thursday, with only two first half foul shots and very few more in the second half before the Knights began fouling intentionally. But that didn't stop the Flash from pounding the ball in the paint. SFU outscored FDU, 34-24, in the paint.
ANOTHER WIN WITH SIX THREE POINTERSIt hadn't happened all season, and now it's happened twice in less than a week against the same opponent. Prior to Saturday's home victory against FDU, the Flash hadn't won a game in which it hit six three pointers or fewer. After conquering that feat Saturday, the Flash did it again on Thursday. The Flash went 6-for-16 from beyond the arc in the 64-60 win. Three of those six makes came from
Dominique Major (Woodbridge, Va./Forest Park). He finished with nine points, all from those three shots.
FIRST HALF SHOOTING POWERSaint Francis went into the intermission with a 27-26 lead on FDU, but the Flash was badly outshooting the Knights from the floor. SFU shot 54.5 percent in the first half, making 12 of its 22 shots. It held FDU to just 37 percent from the floor in the first half.
Â
TURNOVERS ON BOTH SIDESPart of the reason that FDU hung around was that the Flash had 12 turnovers in the first half and finished with 20 for the game. That's the second most for the Flash in a game this season. For its part, though, the SFU defense tempered those turnovers with strong defense. It also forced 20 Fairleigh Dickinson turnovers and converted them into 21 points. The 20 forced turnovers are a season high for the Flash.
LOOKING FOR THREE STRAIGHT AGAINST THE BLACKBIRDSThe Red Flash and LIU Brooklyn have played to nearly a stalemate over the course of the series. With its two wins last season, the Red Flash now owns a 34-33 advantage in the series. Should the Flash prevail in Saturday's contest, it would give SFU its first three-game winning streak over the Blackbirds since the Flash swept the 2003-04 season series and then took the first matchup the following season. Prior to winning the two games last season, the Flash had lost three straight and eight of 10 to LIU Brooklyn.
TIP-INMalik Harmon (Queens, N.Y./Christ the King) also tied a season high with three steals at FDU.
