ROCK HILL, S.C. (March 1, 2015) – In the first game of its spring break trip down south, the Saint Francis U women's lacrosse team lost to Winthrop, 19-7, on Sunday afternoon.
Even in a game played in South Carolina, the Red Flash still couldn't escape the cold. The contest was played in similar temperatures to up north as it was in the mid-30's.
Saint Francis surrendered 12 goals in the opening period, but held its own in the second half and was only outscored, 7-6.
Rebecca Meyer (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton) picked up where she left off against Bucknell as she scored the first goal of the game for SFU, Winthrop had scored two prior to that however so the Flash were then down 2-1. The Eagles went on to score 10 unanswered goals before halftime and led 12-1 at the break.

Kimberly Gronski (Corning, N.Y./Corning East High) scored her first collegiate goal just over a minute into the second frame. Winthrop extended its lead to 14 goals until freshman
Sarah Mahon (Malverne, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) scored her second goal of the season off a free position attempt.
Christina Fini (Huntington, N.Y./Smithtown East) scored the Flash' second consecutive goal at the 12:15 mark and SFU's comeback would attempt would soon ensue.
Holly Lawrence (Damascus, Md./Damascus) and
Jessica Fischetti (Massapequa, N.Y./Plainedge) each tallied one a few minutes apart and Saint Francis then trailed 19-6.
Lindsay Ingram (Stewartstown, Pa./York Catholic) scored SFU's final goal with five seconds left in the game, the assist went to Fischetti.
Grace Smith (Lewis Center, Ohio/Olentangy Orange) and Lawrence each posted three ground balls for Saint Francis.
Heather McKee (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright Bel Air) was charged with the loss in net and registered four saves.
Freshman goalkeeper
Elizabeth Henry (Wilmington, Del./Delaware Military Academy) saw 21 minutes of playing time in the second half, marking her collegiate debut.
Sydney Rowan (Rochester, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy) led the Flash with two draw controls.
Saint Francis will continue its spring break trip with the next stop coming at Mercer on Tuesday at 6 p.m. It will be the first ever meeting between the two schools.
