FAIRFIELD, Conn. (April 26, 2015) - The Saint Francis University women's lacrosse team wrapped up its 2015 season on Sunday at Sacred Heart. The Pioneers won 16-6 at Campus Field.
The Red Flash had 22 shots during the game, but they struggled to convert from free position attempts as they went just 1-of-7.
Katie Schaaf (Ellicott City, Md./Hebron) led the offense with two goals, while in net,
Heather McKee (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright Bel Air) tallied 10 saves over 54 minutes of playing time.
Each team rattled off a goal about three minutes into the contest, it was
Lindsay Ingram (Stewartstown, Pa./York Catholic) who got Saint Francis on the board. The Pioneers then scored eight unanswered goals over the next 20 minutes of the first half to take a commanding 9-1 lead.
Christina Fini (Huntington, N.Y./Smithtown East) was able to put one past SHU goalie Kelly Keenan with 34 seconds to play in the opening half and SFU trailed by seven at halftime.
Jesslyn Joseph scored one of her eight goals at the 27:17 mark of the second period for Sacred Heart and then the Flash put together some quick offensive strikes.
Holly Lawrence (Damascus, Md./Damascus) and Schaaf each scored within a minute of each other, then
Sydney Shearer (Morgantown, W. Va./Morgantown) concerted on a free position attempt. SFU trailed 10-5 with less than 20 minutes to play.
The Pioneers scored three more times over a 12-minute span and put the game out of reach. Schaaf scored her second of the day at the 6:44 mark, the assist was credited to Fini.
Kimberly Gronski (Corning, N.Y./Corning East High) added a trio of ground balls in her final game in a Red Flash uniform. She totaled 96 in her Saint Francis career, which puts her fourth all-time in the SFU record book.
Victoria O'Brien (Saint James, N.Y./Smithtown East) led the Flash with a pair of caused turnovers.
Anai Flanagan (Rochester, N.Y./Hilton) and Shearer each posted two draw controls. Saint Francis went 12-of-16 in clearing attempts.
