BOX SCORE TOWSON, Md. – Gabi Morales (Madrid, Spain/Colegio La Inmaculada-Marillac) scored her first goal of the season, but the Saint Francis women's soccer team fell 2-1 in double overtime at Towson. The Red Flash are now 0-8-1 this season, while the Tigers improved to 6-2-1.
SFU has now played two double overtime games this season, including the season opener vs. Pitt.
Morales led the team with four shots, while
Sara Suler (Hermitage, Pa./Hickory) had three.
Siobhan Bross (Danville, Pa./Danville Area) and
Brittany Hasson (Leola, Pa./Warwick) each had two shots on goal.
Romina Kunze (Frankfurt, Germany/Carl-von-Weinberg-Schule) made nine saves for the Red Flash. As a team, SFU had 13 shots, including seven on goal.
Saint Francis got on the board in the 61st minute. Morales put home a ball off of a cross by
Kasey Butts (Milford, Conn./Jonathan Law). It was Morales' first tally of the season and Butts' first assist of the 2015 campaign.
Morales' goal also snapped a 551-minute scoreless streak by Towson and was the first goal given up by the Tigers since August 28 against High Point.
Towson evened up the score in the 79th minute on a goal by Hollie Garber off an assist by Natalia Pinkney.
In the first overtime period,
Paige Butler (Osprey, Fla./Venice) had a shot saved by Tigers goalie Taylor Sebolao in the 99
th minute. Earlier in the frame, Kunze made a save in the 95th minute on a shot by Garber.
In the 103rd minute, Towson's Pinkney scored from inside the box to clinch the win for the Tigers.
The Red Flash and Tigers were scoreless at the half. Saint Francis had five shots in the half. Bross and Hasson each had a shot on goal for SFU, while Suler had two shot attempts and Morales had one. Kunze made two saves in the first 45 minutes.
Saint Francis travels to Navy on Sunday, Sept. 20 for a 3 p.m. match.
