Football Notebook: A look back at University of Faith

LORETTO, Pa. – The Saint Francis football team enters the fifth week of the season with a 2-2 record after a 78-0 win over University of Faith on Saturday.  The Red Flash completes non-conference action at East Tennessee State this week for a 1 p.m. kickoff against the Buccaneers.  A victory this week would give Saint Francis a winning record in non-conference play for the first time since 1992.
 
Let's take a look back at the victory over the Glory Eagles.
 
Notes from University of Faith
- Freshman running back Jordan Jymere-Toney made his first appearance in a Red Flash uniform and responded by running for 216 yards and three touchdowns on 15 carries.  The Philadelphia native averaged 14.4 yards per carry and had touchdown rushes of one yard, five yards and 47 yards.  He also had rushes of 42 and 56 yards.
 
- Sophomore Byron Johnson (Germantown, Md./Northwest) also had three rushing touchdowns in his Red Flash debut.  Johnson finished the day with 52 yards on 15 carries, including one-yard, three-yard and five-yard touchdowns.
 
- Fellow sophomore Alek Schultz (Herndon, Va./Oak Crest) joined Johnson and Jordan-Toney with over 50 yards on the day.  Schultz had 58 yards on eight carries.  Sophomore Marcus Bagley (Cleveland Heights, Ohio/Cleveland Heights) had two touchdowns in the first 2:46 of the game.
 
- Senior receiver William Martin (Burlington, N.J./Burlington Twp. ) caught two passes on Saturday, both for touchdowns.  Martin hauled in a 32-yard reception in the first quarter and added a 43-yard catch in the second quarter.  Daniel Adams (Washington, D.C./Northwestern) also caught a 25-yard touchdown pass.
 
- Quarterback Zack Drayer (Hershey, Pa./Hershey ) finished the day completing 9-of-14 attempts for 196 yards and three touchdowns.  Freshman Hakeem Kinard (York, Pa./York Catholic) became the first player other than Drayer to appear under center for the Red Flash.  He completed two-of-three passes for 14 yards.  Between the two, they completed passes to 10 different receivers.
 
- Robert Miller (Coral Springs, Fla./Taravella) had two interceptions on the day, with picks in the first and second quarters.  The second interception, he lateraled back to Lorenzo Jerome (Sunrise, Fla./J.P. Taravella) for a 21-yard return.
 
- Delondo Boyd (Indian Head, Md./Henry E. Lackey) and DaShaun Dixon-Roberts each recorded an interception, part of five turnovers forced by the Red Flash.  In the third quarter, James-Nii Lartey (Bristow, Va./Fork Union Military Academy) forced a fumble on a sack and the fumble was recovered by Abu Fofanah (Westminster, Md./Westminster).
 
- Freshman Marcus Galie (Upper St. Clair, Pa./Upper St. Clair) made the most of his playing time on Saturday, leading the team with eight tackles, including two for loss.  Sophomore Zane Stewart (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg) had five tackles with two for loss and a sack.  Roberto Harris-Barron (Philadelphia, Pa./Roman Catholic), Max Ma'afala-Maiava (Pearl City, Hawaii/Aiea ) and Semo Sila (Honolulu, Hawaii /Farrington) each had a sack.
 
- A total of 67 players appeared in the game for SFU, including 12 making their season debut and 19 freshmen.
 
- As a team, the Red Flash compiled 559 yards on 63 plays, an average of 8.9 yards per play.  SFU had 349 rushing yards on 46 carries and 210 passing yards on 11 completions.  SFU also had 21 first downs.
 
- The Red Flash held University of Faith to 222 yards and nine first downs on 73 plays, an average of three yards per play.  Faith gained 53 yards on 34 rushes and 169 yards on 14 completions.  The Glory Eagles were forced to punt nine times.
 
Quick Look at East Tennessee State
The Buccaneers, led by head coach Carl Torbush, are 0-4 in their first season after re-starting their program.  ETSU cut their program after the 2003 season, but are starting it back up as an independent team this season and will compete in the Southern Conference after this year.
 
ETSU fell 27-24 to Emory & Henry on Saturday.  Quarterback Austin Herink completed 17-of-28 passes for 261 yards, a touchdown and an interception.  Running back Jajuan Stinson added 40 yards and two scores on 16 carries.  Fellow running back Falon Lee had 35 yards on 10 attempts.  Receiver Dalton Ponchillia caught four passes for 117 yards, including a 45-yard touchdown.
 
Linebacker Dylan Weigel led the defense with 20 tackles, including 16 solo and two for loss.  Linebacker Trey Quillen and defensive back Tony Welch each contributed eight stops.  Safety Austin Jackson had seven tackles with two for loss.
