LIVE AUDIOSMITHFIELD, RI- The Red Flash will look to bounce back from a tough loss Saturday against Central Connecticut when they take on the NEC-leading Bryant Bulldogs on Monday night at the Chace Athletic Center at 5p.m..
ABOUT THE MATCHUPThe Flash are looking to rebound from a 66-51 setback against Central Connecticut on Saturday afternoon. The Flash were limited to just 28 percent shooting in the game including just 4-26 from three. The Bulldogs continued their perfect start to the conference slate, grinding out a 71-65 win over Robert Morris. Tiersa Winder had 16 points to lead the Bulldogs while Breanna Rucker had 13 points and eight rebounds. Historically, the Bulldogs lead the all-time series 6-5, edging the Flash in a pair of tight ball games last year including 73-71 in Loretto.
ABOUT THE FLASHDespite the setback to the Blue Devils, the Flash are still winners of four of their last five and sit in a tie for third place in the NEC at 5-2 overall.
Jessica Kovatch (Phillipsburg, N.J./Phillipsburg) continues to lead the team, averaging 23 points per game, a mark that is second in the NEC and top-10 in the nation and tops amongst all freshman.
Katie Reese (Boonton Township, N.J./Mountain Lakes) leads the NEC in assists per game at just below four per contest while stepping up her scoring to 15 points per game. Saturday marked the first time the Flash were not able to reach the 70-point mark in the NEC. In their five wins the Flash have scored at least 83 points, in their two losses they have scored 77 and 51. Bryant is 1-7 this season when allowing at least 70 points, conversely, the Flash are 8-2 when scoring at least 80. Rebounding will play a big role on Monday, the Flash were out rebounded 58-34 on Saturday against CCSU while Bryant averages 15 offensive rebounds per game.
ABOUT BRYANTThe Bulldogs are a perfect 7-0 in the NEC and 10-8 overall on the season. Bryant sports a balanced offense that averages three players in double figures led by Breanna Rucker who averages 14 points and 11 rebounds per game. Five players average at least seven points per game as the Bulldogs average 66 points per contest. Bryant has turned up the defensive intensity in conference, allowing just 55 points per NEC contest and just 29 percent shooting from three (compared to 38 percent in non-conference). Kierra Palmer has stepped in to run the point during NEC play and the freshman has responded by averaging 4.3 assists per game against three turnovers.Â
LOOKING AHEADSaint Francis will have a split conference slate next weekend. On Saturday, the Flash will host rival Robert Morris at 4 p.m. at DeGol Arena. On Monday, the Flash travel to Teaneck, New Jersey to take on Fairleigh Dickinson at 7p.m..
