Fairleigh Dickinson Edges Red Flash in Overtime, 86-82

HACKENSACK, N.J. – The Saint Francis men's basketball team erased a 13-point first-half deficit at Fairleigh Dickinson on Thursday night, but the Knights edged the Red Flash in overtime, 86-82. Junior guard Malik Harmon (Queens, N.Y./Christ the King) scored a season-high 20 points to lead SFU scoring.

The teams played a tight second half and overtime. The lead changed 16 times and the score was tied 14 times, all after the first half. Saint Francis (9-11, 5-4) cut a 13-point Fairleigh Dickinson lead to just four points in less than two minutes late in the first half. Ben Millaud-Meunier (Montreal, Quebec/Vanier) scored eight points in just over a minute, and his second three pointer in that stretch made it 31-24 with 4:28 to play. Jamaal King (Salisbury, Md./Bishop O'Connell) hit a three of his own on the next trip to cut the lead to 31-27. The lead shrunk even further thanks to Harmon. He scored seven points in the final 1:38 of the half. His two free throws with 1.5 seconds left in the half put the score at 37-36.

That set the stage for the back-and-forth second half. In those final 25 minutes, the teams were either tied or within one possession for 24:30. FDU held a five-point lead for just 27 seconds in the second half, and two FDU free throws iced the game with just three seconds left in overtime.

Brown gave the Red Flash its first lead on the first possession of the second half, and he tied the score at 44 with 15:53 to play on a fast-break alley-oop from Millaud-Meunier. Millaud-Meunier went on another personal run after that assist. He scored eight more points on three consecutive possessions, this time in a stretch of just 1:01. With the teams trading baskets, his three pointer with 14:10 left gave SFU a 52-51 lead. He finished with 16 points with eight each coming on both of those personal streaks.

Brown hit two layups and Harmon hit a jumper in the final 3:39 to give the Flash a two-point lead each time, but FDU responded each time to re-tie the score. Fairleigh Dickinson had the ball with the shot clock off and the score tied, 76-76, but Darian Anderson back-ironed a three pointer in the final seconds to force overtime.

A three-point play by reigning NEC Player and Rookie of the Week Isaiah Blackmon (Charlotte, N.C./West Charlotte) gave the Flash a 79-78 lead early in the overtime period, but it would be SFU's final lead. Harmon hit three foul shots down the stretch to tie the score at 80 and at 82, but a jumper by Anderson with 27 seconds left made it 84-82. On the Flash's possession, Ronnie Drinnon (Jamestown, Ohio/Greenview) had his shot blocked at the rim in the final seconds. FDU made two free throws to ice the game.

Brown finished with 15 points, seven assists and five rebounds. He's averaging five assists per game over his past four. Drinnon had 10 points and seven rebounds. Josh Nebo (Katy, Texas/Cypress Lakes) had a new high with his 11 rebounds. He added three blocks that led directly to seven SFU points on the next possession.

SFU was looking to match the program's longest road winning streak since the 1980-81 team's four-gamer.

Saint Francis now returns home for three games. First is a battle of western Pennsylvania NEC schools when Robert Morris visits Loretto on Saturday night at 7 p.m.
