SMITHFIELD, R.I.- Troye Kiernan (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) converted a penalty kick early in the second half and SFU played to their second-straight 1-1 draw, this time against the Bryant Bulldogs.
The draw puts SFU at 2-1-2 in conference play while Bryant is 1-1-2.
For the second consecutive night, the Flash found themselves down early. In the seventh minute, Bryant converted a corner kick as Nathaniel Brown got a pass off a corner kick and placed it by Rojas on the near post to make it 1-0 Bulldogs early. Rojas would be called on again in the 16th minute, making a tough save on a header, forcing a corner kick as the Bulldogs had the momentum early.
SFU got their first chance of the match in the 18th minute as
Brendan McGhee (Pickering, Ontario, Canada/St. Mary's Catholic) just missed wide from a shot in the box. Neither team threatened until late in the half when Rojas made another tough save in the 44th minute. The save enabled the Flash to counter as
Jack Webber (Bernville, Pa./Tulpehocken)'s header attempt was denied just before the half expired, it would be 1-0 Bryant after 45 minutes.
The Flash pulled even in the opening minutes of the second half. Francis deVries was denied on a shot in the 48th minute but the rebound came loose and Bryant was whistled for a foul in the box on the scramble. Kiernan converted the penalty shot to tie the match at one.
Following the equalizer, both teams buckled down defensively, the only shots take in the next 35 minutes were both blocked down by the each teams respective defense. It would go to overtime knotted at one.
In extra time, deVries was denied in the opening OT as a sprawling save prevented the game winner and forced a corner kick that the Flash could not convert. In the second OT, it was Bryant's turn to pressure as they got a pair of headers on goal that were saved by Rojas.
SFU returns home next week to face Central Connecticut on Friday. It will be senior day for the Red Flash and the match will be aired on NEC Front Row. Match time is set for 3 p.m. following the women's match between the teams.
