Women's Volleyball Falls at CCSU

NEW BRITIAN, Conn. – The Saint Francis women's volleyball team fell 3-0 against Central Connecticut State on Sunday at Detrick Gymnasium. The Red Flash dropped sets of 25-13, 25-16 and 25-21.

Christa White (Rochester, N.Y./Spencerport) finished with a team-high nine kills while Emily Marcinowski (Strongsville, Ohio/Padua Franciscan) added eight. Amelia Metzler (Littleton, Colo./Chatfield) led the team with 21 assists and Jenna Veres (Independence, Ohio/Padua Franciscan) contributed with 16 digs. Sophia Esposito (Coraopolis, PA/Montour (Gardner-Webb)) recorded three total blocks.

In the opening set, CCSU used a 5-0 run to give the Blue Devils a 10-3 lead. Central Connecticut extended their lead to 17-6 after rattling off four-straight points. A Maddie Smith kill secured the 25-13 victory for the Blue Devils.

CCSU opened the second set with a 10-6 lead, but the Flash responded by cutting the lead to 11-9. However, the Blue Devils answered with a 3-0 run and opened the CCSU lead to 14-9. Central Connecticut earned five of the next seven points to clinch the set, 25-16.

The Flash put together four-straight points after the Blue Devils jumped out to a 6-1 lead. A kill by Sophie Murdock (Lake Orion, Mich./Lake Orion ) would tie the score at 9-9. SFU put together a pair of 3-0 runs to make the score 19-15 and 22-20, but a kill by Cassidy Stankowski gave CCSU the set and match, 25-21.

Saint Francis hosts Sacred Heart and Fairleigh Dickinson next Saturday and Sunday. Both matches are set for 2 p.m.
