Women’s Volleyball Falls in Straight Sets to St. Francis Brooklyn

LORETTO, Pa. – The Saint Francis women's volleyball team suffered a 3-0 setback to St. Francis Brooklyn on Sunday at DeGol Arena. The Terriers won, 25-23, 25-19 and 25-20.
 
Breanna Opera (Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster ) led the Flash with 15 kills, while Amelia Metzler (Littleton, Colo./Chatfield) finished with a match high 29 assists. Jenna Veres (Independence, Ohio/Padua Franciscan) recorded 14 digs.
 
St. Francis Brooklyn (7-14; 2-3) jumped out to a quick 8-3 lead in the first set. A SFBK ball handing error would give the Flash a 12-11 lead. Neither team could gain much of a lead until SFBK rattled off five-straight points to pull ahead, 21-16. Two service aces from Emily Marcinowski (Strongsville, Ohio/Padua Franciscan) forced a St. Francis Brooklyn timeout. A kill by Amelia Metzler (Littleton, Colo./Chatfield) and an attack error by the Terriers would even the score at 21-21. With the Flash facing set point, SFU cut the deficit to 24-23, but a Saint Francis service error gave St. Francs Brooklyn a 25-23 win.
 
The Terriers grabbed momentum early in the second set going up 9-3. Saint Francis (4-15; 0-6) attempted to claw back, but St. Francis Brooklyn kept answering. SFU strung together six straight points to make the score 23-18 but SFBK would end up taking the set, 25-19.
 
Both teams traded points early in the third set. The Terriers used a 4-0 run to take a 10-6 lead. Saint Francis answered with five unanswered point to take a 15-14 advantage. With the score tied at 19-19, SFBK responded with four-straight points to lead 23-19. St. Francis Brooklyn closed out the set with the final two points to take the match, 25-20.
 
Saint Francis returns to action next Saturday when they travel to take on Robert Morris
