LORETTO, PA- Fresh off their season-opening road trip through Wisconsin, the Saint Francis women's basketball team opens a three-game home stand against the Columbia Lions.Â
ABOUT THE FLASH
Saint Francis picked up a big win over Wisconsin, 103-100 to start the season and gave Marquette all they could handle in a 104-91 set back on Tuesday. Through two games this season,
Jessica Kovatch (Phillipsburg, N.J./Phillipsburg) leads the team with a 24.5 points per game average and is just two points shy of 700 for her career. The sophomore leads four players in double figures through two games as the runnin' Red Flash have averaged 97 points per game so far this season. They have done it by averaging a NCAA-best 14.5 three pointers per game and hitting the deep ball at a 37 percent clip. Â
Katie Reese (Boonton Township, N.J./Mountain Lakes (Manhattan)) leads the team by hitting 53 percent of her threes and dishing six assist per game average but
Ace Harrison (Baltimore, MD/Digital Harbor (Maryland)) and
Halee Adams (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Bishop Guilfoyle (Sienna)) each are averaging four dimes per game as SFU has dished out 40 assists through two games. Defensively, Harrison leads the team with a nine rebound per game average and two steals per game.
Courtney Zezza (Plum, Pa./Plum) has swatted away six shots to lead the club.Â
ABOUT THE LIONS
Picked eighth in the Ivy League, the Lions will come into DeGol Arena for the first time in program history and sports a 1-1 record. Columbia jumped out to a 18-5 lead on Richmond and knocked off the Spiders 65-58. The Lions are led by Camille Zimmerman who was named Ivy League Player of the Week and is averaging 20 points and 12.5 rebounds per game so far this season. Columbia has controlled the glass thanks in part to Zimmerman as they are plus-25 on the glass through two contests. Saint Francis will look to speed up the Lions, who are averaging 60 points per game on 35 percent shooting. However, the Lions have averaged 19 turnovers through two contests, while the Flash have forced an average of 20. This is the second time these two teams have met, Saint Francis dropped a tough 82-78 decision last year at Columbia on December 1st. The Flash forced 29 turnovers in that contest but managed only 21 points per miscue.Â
