LORETTO, PA- The Red Flash welcome in 300 elementary school students for an education day matinee against Canisius with an 11 a.m. tip time.Â
EDUCATION DAY
This will be the first education day held at Saint Francis. The Red Flash will welcome in area elementary school students for a pre-game "career day" where people will talk to the students about their professions. The kids will also have an activity book to work on before and after the game.Â
ABOUT THE FLASH
Saint Francis will try to break a two-game slide when they take on the Golden Griffins on Tuesday. SFU dropped a 84-77 contest at home to Columbia on Saturday. The Flash led 46-36 at the half but Columbia went on a 18-0 run in the third quarter to flip the script on the game and never trailed after the surge. The Red Flash could not find their shooting touch on Saturday, shooting just 6-26 from three and 33 percent in the second half from the field.
Ace Harrison (Baltimore, MD/Digital Harbor (Maryland)) had a career high 26 points to go along with nine rebounds and eight steals in the loss. The Maryland transfer is averaging 18.7 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals per game.
Jessica Kovatch (Phillipsburg, N.J./Phillipsburg) had 12 points in the loss but in the game, she eclipsed the 700 point mark for her career. The sophomore is the fastest player to reach the milestone at SFU.Â
ABOUT THE GRIFFINSÂ
Canisius was picked sixth in the Metro Atlantic Conference and has an identical 1-2 record entering Tuesday's game. The Golden Griffins dropped a 73-64 contest at home to Akron on Sunday. The Griffins boast a balanced offense with four players averaging double figures through three games. Maria Welch is one of the players averaging in double figures, the sophomore was named third-team All-MAAC in the pre-season after an All-Rookie year last season. The Griffins have also played a disciplined brand of basketball, averaging just 10 turnovers per game, SFU comes into the game forcing over 22 per contest. The game marks the eighth all-time meeting between the teams, with Canisius holding a 5-2 edge and are winners of the past five meetings. The Griffins topped SFU 77-52 last year in Buffalo.
