Men's Basketball Visits NJIT on Wednesday

LORETTO, Pa. - The Saint Francis men's basketball team heads to Newark, N.J. on Wednesday to battle NJIT.  Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Estelle and Zoom Fleisher Athletic Center.  The game is being broadcast on ESPN3.

The Red Flash, led by Head Coach Rob Krimmel, is 3-2 this season and on a three-game win streak after a 69-62 win at American on Saturday.  The Highlanders are 3-4 after a hard-fought 79-68 loss at Purdue on Saturday.

The matchup will feature two of the nation's top three-point shooting teams.  Saint Francis is third in the nation with a 45.5 three-point percentage and ranks 15th in the nation, averaging 10.2 makes per game.  NJIT is ninth in the nation in made three-pointers, with 67, and 13th in three-point attempts, with 191.

NOTES FROM AMERICAN 

- Jamaal King (Salisbury, Md./Bishop O'Connell (Va.)) led the Flash with 20 points and eight rebounds.
- King hit 7-of-13 from the field and went 4-of-8 from behind the arc.
- Keith Braxton (Glassboro, N.J./The Lawrenceville School) recorded his second career double-double, recording 14 points and 15 boards. Braxton's
performance helped him to earn NEC Rookie of the Week honors.
- Braxton went 8-of-10 from the free-throw line.
- Josh Nebo (Houston, Texas/Cypress Lakes) contributed 15 points, seven rebounds and two blocks.  

SERIES HISTORY 
Saint Francis looks for its first win in the series on Wednesday after dropping the first three contests.  NJIT won last year's game, 77-65.  Greg Brown (Odenton, Md./Archbishop Spalding) led the Red Flash with 18 points, while Malik Harmon (Queens, N.Y./Christ the King) added 14.

ACTION BRAXTON
Braxton averaged a double-double with 15.5 points and 13.5 rebounds to to along with 4.0 assists and 1.5 per game to earn his first NEC Rookie of the Week award. He finished with a career-high 17 points, 12 rebounds and five in SFU's 87-72 win against Longwood. Braxton went 8-of-11 from the field and added a pair of steals against American. The Glassboro, N.J. native posted his second career double-double with 14 points and a personal-best 15 rebounds. He leads the NEC with 8.8 rpg and is shooting 56.4 percent from the floor to rank sixth in the league. 

NEBO'S BLOCK PARTY
Sophomore forward Josh Nebo (Houston, Texas/Cypress Lakes) has become a force when it comes to protecting the rim.  After posting 59 blocks as a freshman, Nebo added four more against Longwood.  His 69 career blocks are already good for seventh all-time at Saint Francis, two away from tying Jason Osborne (2001-05) for sixth place.  He leads the NEC with 10 blocks this season.

Nebo has also had a strong year on the offensive end of the floor, where he is averaging 14.0 points per game and ranks fifth in the nation, shooting 75.7%.

BOMBS AWAY
Saint Francis hit on 9 threes against St. Bonaventure, 10 against Duquesne and 19 vs. Chatham.  The Red Flash are currently third the nation with a 45.5 three-point percentage and is tied for 15th, averaging 10.2 three-pointers per game.  SFU's 19 against Chatham are the third-most in a Division I game this year.

Senior guard Georgios Angelou (Halkida, Greece/Lykeio Kanithou) has hit a team-best 14 threes this year and ranks 89th in the NCAA with a 43.8 three-point percentage.  Sophomore Jamaal King (Salisbury, Md./Bishop O'Connell (Va.)) has hit 11 threes, sophomore Isaiah Blackmon (Charlotte, N.C./West Charlotte) and sophomore Scott Meredith (Pilot Mountain, N.C./Hargrave Military Academy (Va.)) have six, while freshman Keith Braxton (Glassboro, N.J./The Lawrenceville School) and sophomore Andre Wolford (Willowick, Ohio/Saint Ignatius) both have hit four.

BALANCED ATTACK
Saint Francis placed three players in double figures in the 69-62 win over American.  The Red Flash has put at least four players in double figures in four out of the five games this season.  SFU had five in double figures in the opener at Saint Bonaventure and four in the loss at Duquesne.  

The Red Flash is averaging 86.4 points per game, ranking 21st in the nation, and shooting 50.8 percent from the field, ranking 14th.  Nebo (14.0), King (13.6), Braxton (12.6) and Angelou (10.0)  are all averaging double-figures through five games, while Randall Gaskins Jr. and Isaiah Blackmon (Charlotte, N.C./West Charlotte) are close behind, averaging 8 points per game.

DROPPING DIMES
Boosted by a 30-assist performance against Chatham, the Red Flash is 19th in the nation in assists per game, averaging 18.6. With 93 total assists, SFU is assisting on 60.3 percent of its made shots.

YOUTH MOVEMENT 
Eleven of the eighteen players on the Saint Francis roster are freshman or sophomore eligibility.  Of the 15 players who have appeared a game this year, 10 are freshmen or sophomores.  Through five games, the group has combined for 368 of the team's 432 points (85.18 percent) and 799 of 1001 minutes (79.8 percent).

TEAM CAPTAINS 
Senior guard Georgios Angelou (Halkida, Greece/Lykeio Kanithou), sophomore guard Jamaal King (Salisbury, Md./Bishop O'Connell (Va.)) and sophomore forward Josh Nebo (Houston, Texas/Cypress Lakes) were selected Team Captains for the 2016-17 season. Angelou, one of three seniors on the roster, moves into a bigger role this year after being a key contributor off the bench last season, leading SFU with a 47.4 three-point percentage. King will provide leadership at the point guard spot, while Nebo made a big impact in his freshman campaign, starting 29 games.

ABOUT THE HIGHLANDERS 
NJIT is 3-4 this season, coming off a hard-fought 79-68 loss at No. 17 Purdue.  The Highlanders trailed by three at halftime, but allowed a 10-2 run by the Boilermakers to start the second half.

Senior guard Damon Lynn had 33 points in the loss, pushing his season average to 24 points per game.  He ranks seventh in the nation in scoring and leads the country in made threes, with 33, and made threes per game, 4.71.

Senior guard Tim Coleman averaged 12.7 points and six rebounds per game, while senior guard Rob Ukawuba has contributed 9.6 points per contest.

NEXT TIME OUT...
The Red Flash returns to DeGol Arena on Saturday, December 3 for a 7 p.m. tipoff against Binghamton.  The game will be broadcast on NEC Front Row.  The Bearcats are 4-4 this season and host Mansfield on Wednesday.
