BOCA RATON, FLA.- The Red Flash will take on the Jackson State Tigers for the first time on Saturday in the FAU Holiday Tournament third-place game.
ABOUT THE FLASH
Saint Francis could not over come a slow start on Friday night in a 90-82 setback to Maryland Eastern Shore. An early first quarter run by the Hawks put them up 16-5 and they held a double digit lead for much of the first half. The Flash were able to get the deficit down to single digits on a couple of occasions but the Hawks stemmed the tide and controlled the tempo. The Flash had a balanced attack on offense with six players reaching double figures led by Jess Kovatch's 17 points. SFU is 1-2 on their current five game road trip going into Saturday's game with the Tigers.Â
ABOUT THE TIGERS
Jackson State comes into the game at 4-4 on the season but are just 1-4 against Division-I opponents, picking up wins against the likes of Blue Mountain College and LeMoyne. Their lone D-1 win is over Southeast Louisiana. Like the Flash, the Tigers are a fast-paced, up and down team who leads the SWAC at 70 points per game. Transition will be key in the game as JSU averages 25 turnovers forced and caused per game. Derica Wiggins was a second-team All-SWAC pre-season honoree and she leads the team with just over 12 points per game. The Tigers were picked to finish sixth in the SWAC in the pre-season poll. Chelsea Causey leads the team at over six rebounds per game but six different players rip down at least three boards per game.Â
SERIES HISTORY
The Flash and Tigers have never met and this is just the second time the Flash have played a school out of the SWAC. SFU defeated Alabama State 72-54 in the 2000-01 season.Â
