LORETTO, PA- Saint Francis women's basketball heads to the Buckeye State on Saturday afternoon, taking on Youngstown State at 5:30 at the Beeghly Center.
ABOUT THE FLASH
Saint Francis will look to get back on track after a 78-72 setback at home to Cornell on Monday night. The Flash battled back against the Big Red but could not overcome a 22-5 Cornell lead after the first quarter.
Jessica Kovatch (Phillipsburg, N.J./Phillipsburg) led all scorers with 25 points to go along with four steals and
Ace Harrison (Baltimore, MD/Digital Harbor (Maryland)) had 18 points 9 rebounds and six steals to lead SFU. The Red Flash hit just seven threes in the loss on 23 attempts and are 0-2 on the season when making fewer than eight triples in a game. Saint Francis will come into Saturday's game still averaging 11 three pointers per game, good for fourth in the NCAA. The key stat of the game was Cornell's 16-4 edge in second-chance points as they took advantage of winning the offensive rebounding battle 17-5. Both the Flash and the Penguins average 36 rebounds per game and have been getting out rebounded by their respective opponent on average. The Red Flash defense forced 21 Big Red turnovers, leading to 26 points. The Penguins take good care of the ball, as they have averaged just 15 turnovers a contest.
ABOUT THE PENGUINS
Picked fourth in the Horizon League, YSU comes into the game at 2-4 on the season. The Penguins have logged some frequent flier miles already this season, having played Hawaii and Sacramento State in Hawaii and made a second trip out west to Northern Arizona. This contest starts a string of four of their next five games being inside the home confines of the Beeghly Center. Sarah Cash leads the team with a 13 points per game average off the bench for the Penguins. She had a team-high 12 points in the loss at Northern Arizona. Indiya Benjamin leads the team in assists, dishing out over four assists per contest. Both her and Cash were named pre-season All-Horizon League. YSU rebounds as a team, with no player averaging over 4.8 rebounds per game, the Flash will have to watch for multiple players crashing the glass on Saturday. The Penguins average 22 three attempts a game, making six, that was inflated by their 8-27 effort against Northern Arizona.
