WILLIAMSBURG, VA.- The Red Flash wrap up their non-conference schedule and their five-game road trip with the College of William and Mary Tribe tonight at 7 p.m.
ABOUT THE FLASH
Saint Francis is looking to break a three-game losing streak, having dropped all three games in the Sunshine State.
Jessica Kovatch (Phillipsburg, N.J./Phillipsburg)Â has averaged 24 points on the road trip including 37 against the #19 South Florida Bulls and was named to the tournament team at the FAU Holiday Classic. The sophomore earned her first NEC Player of the Week for her efforts in the first four games of the trip. In their last game, the Flash set a school record with 13 blocked shots against Jackson State. That effort put them into the top-10 in blocked shots per game, now sitting eighth nationally at 6.6 per contest. Offensively, the Flash sit second in the NCAA in threes per game at 11.7, hitting them at a 33.6 percent clip. It will be a contrast of styles on Tuesday as William and Mary holds opponents to just 24 percent shooting from deep and just 34 percent overall. Also, the Flash lead the NEC at 82.2 points per game and have the top two scorers in the NEC in
Jessica Kovatch (Phillipsburg, N.J./Phillipsburg) and
Ace Harrison (Baltimore, MD/Digital Harbor (Maryland)). The Tribe are one of the stingiest defenses in the NCAA, holding teams to just under 50 points per game.Â
ABOUT THE TRIBE
Picked to finish fifth in the CAA, the Tribe have won eight-straight games since their season-opening loss against St. John's. They have done in part to a very stingy defense that has not allowed an opponent to top 58 points during the win streak. They held Mount St. Mary's to just four first quarter points in a 68-46 win on Sunday. Marlena Tremble is their leading scorer at 13 points per game and was a pre-season All-CAA selection. As was their do-it-all forward Alexandra Masaquel who averages 11 points and seven rebounds and led the team with five assists on Sunday. The Tribe are led by a familiar face to Saint Francis in Ed Swanson, who prior to his time at William and Mary, coached Sacred Heart for 23 seasons. Another familar face is sophomore forward Chandler Smith, the younger sister of
Cydney Smith (Port Tobacco, Md./St. Mary's Ryken), the two will square off against each other for the first time in college.Â
SERIES HISTORY
This will be the fifth meeting all-time between the teams and the two schools have split the previous four meetings. Â The teams last met in 1997 with the Red Flash picking up a 70-66 win in Williamsburg.Â
