ABOUT THE FLASHThe Flash snapped a brief, two-game losing streak on Saturday afternoon, besting rival Robert Morris 62-54 at DeGol Arena. The Flash forced 22 turnovers, turned them into 22 points and held the Colonials to just 29 percent shooting. Jess Kovatch had a game-high 21 points and a team-high eight rebounds in the victory.
Brielle Ward (Baltimore, Md./Western (Hampton U)) and
Samiah Bethel (Jacksonville, Fla./Potter's House Christian Academy) each had four steals to headline the defensive effort. The Flash forced 26 turnovers the last time these two teams place (1/18) and FDU ranks last in the NEC and 339th in the nation with over 21 per game, and is last in the NEC at -3.3 turnovers per game. The Knights are the best rebounding team in the NEC, but were just +4 against SFU in the first matchup this season.
ABOUT THE KNIGHTSA scheduling quirk had the Knights play LIU Brooklyn twice in three days last week. Their Monday game was pushed to Wednesday due to weather and the teams met again on Saturday, each team won on their home court. FDU comes into the game at 4-5 in the NEC and 7-15 overall. The team is paced by seniors Kelsey Cruz and Erika Livermore. Cruz leads the team in scoring at over 18 points per game while Livermore averages 17 points per game on 50 percent shooting. Livermore also leads the team with eight rebounds per contest. Kianna Brown has run the point very well, she leads the NEC with four assists per game and a 1.17 assist to turnover ratio. FDU likes to drive and pound the ball inside, they are last in the NEC with just 80 made threes, less than four per game. FDU is 3-2 at home in the NEC and 5-7 at Stratis Arena overall.
ABOUT THE MATCHUPThe two teams met two weeks ago at DeGol Arena with Saint Francis running away with a 87-67 victory. The Flash used a 10-0 run over the final 90 seconds of the first quarter to take a lead they would never give back. Jess Kovatch had 26 points to lead all scorers and
Katie Reese (Boonton Township, N.J./Mountain Lakes) had a career-high 21 points in the victory. Kelsey Cruz battled foul trouble and was held to 16 points while Livermore had her usually efficient game with 20 points and nine rebounds. Saint Francis hit 17 threes in the victory, tying a school record and had a season-high 18 steals. The Flash will look for their first sweep of FDU since the 2013-14 season, the teams have not split a season series since the 2010-11 season.
LOOKING AHEADThe Flash will host Central Connecticut and Bryant next weekend to close out their respective regular-season series with the Blue Devils and Bulldogs. First up is CCSU, tip time is set for Saturday at 1 p.m. from DeGol Arena.
