Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Barry Beal

Terriers Top Red Flash, 70-58

LORETTO, Pa. – Senior Ronnie Drinnon (Jamestown, Ohio/Greenview) scored a team high 19 points and added 10 rebounds for his 15th double-double of the season, but the Saint Francis men's basketball team lost to St. Francis Brooklyn, 70-58, Thursday night at DeGol Arena. The Terriers scored 17 points off turnovers and outscored the Flash, 12-0, on the fast break.

Though the Terriers' lead would expand to as many as 19 late in the contest, it remained a tight game into the second half. Drinnon's jumper with 14:57 to play made it 39-38 Terriers, but that started a run where St. Francis Brooklyn scored on eight consecutive possessions. By the time that streak ended on a Chris Hooper layup with 9:38 to play, the Terriers lead expanded to 55-44.

"We knew it was going to be about effort, energy and hustle plays," head coach Rob Krimmel said. "We got the game to one point and then they went on a stretch where they scored eight straight possessions. I have a feeling a lot of those were effort plays and hustle plays."

After shooting 30 percent in a road loss at Mount St. Mary's on Saturday, the Flash again struggled from the field. SFU shot just 32.7 percent from the field, 10 percent below its season average.

Drinnon, the lone SFU player to reach double figures in either points or rebounds, moved his career total to 892 points. His 10 rebounds pushed his career total to 747 rebounds, just seven behind Devin Sweetney (2006-10) for 13th place on the school's all-time list.

Greg Brown (Odenton, Md./Archbishop Spalding) had nine points for the Flash, drawing closer to the 800-point plateau. He now sits at 795 points. Josh Nebo (Katy, Texas/Cypress Lakes) had three more blocks – including a couple emphatic rejections – to give him 44 blocks this season. The freshman is now second on the school's single-season blocks list. He passed Jerry Mack (1986-87) for second. Melvin Scott is still far ahead in first place, finishing with 70 blocks in 2000-01.

Ifeanyi Umezurike (Uturu, Abia State, Nigeria/Montverde Academy) led SFU bench players with seven points and four rebounds in just five minutes of action in the second half.

Saint Francis now turns its attention to Senior Day on Saturday against LIU Brooklyn. The team will honor its three seniors – Drinnon, Brown and Ben Millaud-Meunier (Montreal, Quebec/Vanier) – in a ceremony at 12:40 p.m. ahead of the team's 1 p.m. tip-off with the Blackbirds. It's a senior class that has scored 2,631 points, and it has helped to transform the program from a five-win team in their freshman season into a team that has made two straight trips to the NEC Tournament semifinals and now has a chance to win the conference regular season title as seniors.

Saturday is the final guaranteed home game for those seniors in their careers and for the Red Flash as a team this season.

"The good thing about this group is that it's a resilient group," Krimmel said. "I know the seniors will have our guys ready to practice tomorrow and play one last time [on Saturday] in DeGol Arena this season."
