Men's Volleyball Handles Charleston to Win Fourth Straight

LORETTO, Pa. – The Saint Francis men's volleyball team used a total team effort to sweep the University of Charleston Golden Eagles on Saturday night at DeGol Arena. The Flash won the match, 25-12, 25-19 and 25-14.
 
With the win, the Flash improves to 9-6 overall and 4-3 in conference, while the Eagles fall to 4-11 overall and 0-6 in the EIVA.
 
"It feels good to be 4-3 in conference and 8-1 at home. Once the boys get back from spring break, we are going to have to win some games on the road," said head coach Mike Rumbaugh.
 
Rumbaugh emptied has bench as the Flash dominated the match. Brandon Buck (Baden, Pa./Ambridge) led Saint Francis with eight kills on 10 attempts and finished with a .600 hitting percentage.  Mike Marshman (Glenmont, N.Y./Bethlehem Central) finished second on the squad with six kills while Stephen Braswell (Manchester, Pa./Northeastern), Nick Bennett (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East) and Evan Feltz (Westerville, Ohio/St. Francis DeSales) finished with four kills apiece. Daniel Ford (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) dished out a game-high 24 assists.
 
The Flash jumped out to a commanding 8-4 lead in the first set. SFU closed out the set on an 11-1 spurt to win, 25-12. Braswell led the Flash with four kills in the set. Saint Francis held Charleston to just five kills.
 
Saint Francis took control in the second set with a 10-5 advantage. The Golden Eagles would pull within two at 14-12. The Flash rattled off four straight points to lead, 18-12.  An attack error by Charleston gave the Flash the second set, 25-19. Buck finished with five kills in the set.
 
SFU never trailed in the third set and led, 7-4. With UC within three at 10-7, the Flash used a 6-0 run to put the game out of reach. The Flash scored six of the last nine points to win the match and set, 25-14. Feltz led the Flash with five kills in the set. 
 
The Flash has the week off for spring break and returns to DeGol Arena on March 11 against Limestone at 7 p.m.
