Red Flash Gets Second Comeback Win Over Bryant, 63-57

LORETTO, Pa. - Two weeks after overcoming a 19-point deficit to win at Bryant, the Saint Francis men's basketball team conjured some of that same magic in a 63-57 win over the Bulldogs on Thursday night at DeGol Arena. Saint Francis overcame a slow start and a 15-point second half deficit in the victory. Basil Thompson (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep Charter) led the Flash with 16 points, and Ronnie Drinnon (Jamestown, Ohio/Greenview) scored 12 points and pulled down 16 rebounds.

It was freshman Josh Nebo (Katy, Texas/Cypress Lakes) who kept the Flash in the game early in the second half after Bryant took a 36-21 lead with 18:35 left in regulation. Nebo scored nine points in a little more than three minutes, and his three-point play after grabbing an offensive board with 14:49 left pulled the Flash to within 40-34. Saint Francis pulled to within a point on three occasions in the next six minutes but couldn't climb over Bryant to take it first lead of the night. Marcel Pettway's layup expanded the lead back to nine points, 55-46, with 5:42 left.

Saint Francis (11-11, 7-4) took control at that point, finishing the game on a 17-2 run. Thompson and Drinnon hit six free throws to make it a three-point game, and Drinnon's layup with 2:47 remaining made it 55-54 Bryant. After a Bryant miss, the Flash finally took its first lead on a Thompson three pointer from the left wing to make it 57-55. Bryant tied the score on its next possession, but that would be the Bulldogs' final points of the night.

The Flash showed its grit on the glass on the next possession. Thompson and Drinnon each grabbed an offensive rebound - two of the Flash's 15 offensive boards - and Drinnon made the bucket and was fouled to make it 59-57. He missed the free throw, but he would make the biggest defensive play of the night in the final seconds.

Bryant's Curtis Oakley drove hard on the left side and appeared to make a layup to tie the game with 16 seconds left, but he was whistled for an offensive foul thanks to Drinnon holding his ground in the paint. After Malik Harmon (Queens, N.Y./Christ the King) made a free throw to make it 60-57, Bryant again had an opportunity to tie. That ended quickly when Shane McLaughlin was called for an illegal screen with eight seconds left. Three SFU free throws clinched the game.

Bryant opened the game on a 10-0 run, but the Flash managed to pull within a point before Bryant extended its lead to 31-21 at halftime. Saint Francis has two wins this season when trailing at halftime and when trailing by double-digit points, both against Bryant. It's the first season sweep of Bryant for the Red Flash in the teams' brief history. Thursday marked the 13th game in the series.

Nebo scored 10 points and Harmon scored nine with the pair combining for 16 of their 19 points in the second half.
