Men's Volleyball Has Win Streak Snapped by No. 13 Lewis

LORETTO, Pa. – The Saint Francis men's volleyball team saw its eight-game win streak come to an end on Thursday night in three straight sets to No.13 Lewis. The Flash dropped the match, 21-25, 16-25 and 23-25.

The Flash drops to 13-7 on the season, while the Flyers improve to 15-10.

"I was very impressed with Lewis' floor defense - it was the fastest I've seen in years. Their size of the block was also impressively big,"  said head coach Mike Rumbaugh

Jeff Hogan (Northern Cambria, Pa./Northern Cambria) led the Flash with 13 kills on 29 swings. Mike Marshman (Glenmont, N.Y./Bethlehem Central) tallied five kills and finished with a .444 hitting percentage and added two service aces. Stephen Braswell (Manchester, Pa./Northeastern) finished with a team-high 10 digs.

Braswell started the first set with two service aces to give the Flash an early lead. Both teams would trade points until the Flash took an 11-9 lead. The Flyers put together a 4-0 run to lead, 13-11, and forced the Flash to take a timeout and regroup. Out of the timeout, SFU would score three of the next four points to tie the score at 14-14. With Saint Francis leading 20-18, the Flyers would outscore the Flash, 8-1, to take the first set, 25-21.

Saint Francis sprinted out to an 3-0 lead in the second set. LU used a 5-0 run to take an 8-4 advantage. The Flash pulled within four at 12-8, but Lewis would go on another run to put the set out of reach.  A Jacob Schmieglet kill sealed the second set for Lewis, 25-16.

SFU took an 8-6 lead in the third set, but LU scored four unanswered points to lead, 10-8. The Flash would comeback to tie the score at 10-10. The halfway mark of the third set remained tight, but Lewis went on another 4-0 run to take control of the third set.

The Flash returns to action tomorrow against No. 12 Loyola University Chicago at 7 p.m. Live stats and live video will be available for the match.
