Women's Basketball Heads to Sacred Heart for NEC Semis

LORETTO, PA- The Saint Francis women's basketball team heads to Connecticut for Wednesday's Northeast Conference semi-final against top-seeded Sacred Heart, tip time is set for 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Wednesday night's game will air on ESPN 3 with John Schmeelk on the call. The game will also air on WWGE and live stats will be provided by Sacred Heart.

WHAT'S AT STAKE
The winner of Wednesday's game advances to the NEC championship . It would be SFU's 17th trip to the NEC title game (11-5 all time) and Sacred Heart's fourth (3-1 all time).

ABOUT THE FLASH
The Flash earned their way into the NEC semis with a hard-earned 83-77 victory against Central Connecticut in DeGol Arena on Sunday. In a game that saw seven ties and six lead changes, Saint Francis used an 11-0 run in the fourth quarter to distance themselves from the Blue Devils. Jessica Kovatch (Phillipsburg, N.J./Phillipsburg) led four players in double figures with 24 and Katie Reese (Boonton Township, N.J./Mountain Lakes) added 20 points and a career-high seven rebounds. Brielle Ward (Baltimore, Md./Western (Hampton U)) had 13 rebounds as Saint Francis flipped the script from the two previous meetings with CCSU. The Flash won the rebounding battle 46-40 and second-chance points 12-4 to earn their first victory in three tries against Central Connecticut this season.

ABOUT SACRED HEART
The NEC regular-season champions are playing their best basketball of the season, winning their 10th straight game, a 66-47 victory over the eight-seed Mount Saint Mary's on Sunday afternoon. The Pioneers held the Mount to just 25 percent shooting and just 16 first-half points in the victory. Much like the Flash, SHU put four players in double figures in the victory, led by NEC Player of the Year Hannah Kimmel who recorded her 10th double-double of the year with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Kimmel has been a force against Saint Francis this season, averaging over 26 points per contest in the two games this season. Sacred Heart won both regular-season meeting with the Flash, erasing a double-digit lead both times. The Pioneers won 81-77 in Loretto as part of the opening weekend of the season and 80-67 in Fairfield in the final weekend of the season.
