Women's Lacrosse Drops NEC Opener to Sacred Heart, 14-10

LORETTO, Pa. – Seven different players scored as the Saint Francis women's lacrosse team fell in its NEC home opener to Sacred Heart, 14-10, on Friday afternoon at DeGol Field.
 
The Flash falls to 3-7 on the season and 0-1 in conference play, while the Pioneers improves to 5-4 overall and 1-0 in the NEC.
 
Lindsay Ingram (Stewartstown, Pa./York Catholic) led the Flash with three goals while Katie Schaaf (Ellicott City, Md./Hebron) notched two. Heather McKee (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright Bel Air) tallied six saves in net and added three ground balls, while Jessica Mazzur (Dallastown, Pa./York Catholic) recorded three assists.
 
Sacred Heart struck first just 10 seconds into the game. Saint Francis answered 23 second later to tie the score at 1-1. The Pioneers scored two straight goals to take a 3-1 lead with 23:59 left to play in the first.
 
Both teams traded goals before Schaaf scored two straight goals in 28 seconds to tie the score at 4-4. SHU would go on another 2-0 run to take a 6-4 lead. Sarah Mahon (Malverne, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) scored off a pass from Mazzur to pull SFU within one at 6-5 with 6:07 left in the first period.
 
SHU would score once more before the half and so did the Flash as Ingram scored her second goal of the first period. SFU trailed SHU, 7-6, at the break.
 
The Pioneers scored quickly in the second half to take an 8-6 lead. Sydney Rowan (Rochester, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy) found the back of the net from a pass from Jessica Fischetti (Massapequa, N.Y./Plainedge) to again pull the Flash within one at 8-7.
 
Sacred Heart tallied to more goals to lead, 10-7. Fischetti scored off a pass from Day and SFU was within two at 10-8. SHU would outscore SFU, 4-1, to lead, 14-9. Ingram tallied her third goal of the day with just nine seconds left in the second.
 
Saint Francis hosts LIU Brooklyn on Sunday at noon.
