Men’s Volleyball Falls in Straight Sets to No. 15 Ball State

Flash Points:
  • Michael Fisher (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley (Pepperdine)) led the Flash with 14 kills.
  • Jeff Hogan (Northern Cambria, Pa./Northern Cambria) posted 11 kills, seven digs and two blocks.
  • SFU returns to action tomorrow against Fort Wayne at 7 p.m.
 
MUNCIE, Ind. – The Saint Francis men's volleyball team suffered a 3-0 setback to No. 15 Ball State on Thursday night at John E. Worthen Arena. The Red Flash fell, 21-25, 22-25 and 25-27.

Michael Fisher (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley (Pepperdine)) led the Flash with 14 kills while Daniel Ford (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) paced the Flash with 37 assists. Jeff Hogan (Northern Cambria, Pa./Northern Cambria) added 11 kills and a team-high seven digs and two blocks.

Facing a 7-2 deficit in the first set, kills by Hogan and Fisher pulled the Flash within three at 8-5. Ball State would take its biggest lead of the set at 18-10. Two kills by Fisher sparked a 6-2 run to put SFU within four at 20-16. A 2-0 Saint Francis run would make the score 21-24, forcing Ball State to use its final timeout of the set, but a kill by Matt Szews would give the Cardinals a 1-0 match lead.

In a second set that featured five ties, BSU would eventually take a 13-10 lead. Saint Francis would fight back to tie the set at 22-22, but the Cardinals scored the last three points to take the set, 25-22.

For the third consecutive set, Ball State would score the first point of the match. After trading points in the third set, Saint Francis would use a small run to take a 13-10 lead. SFU would take its biggest lead of the match at 17-13. Ball State would rally back to tie the match at 19-19.  A Hogan and Fisher kill would knot the score at 24-24, but Ball State would score the last two points to take the set and match, 27-25.  

Saint Francis returns to action tomorrow against Fort Wayne at 7 p.m.
