MOON, PA- Two old rivals meet up for the 81st time on Monday afternoon when Saint Francis visits Robert Morris for a 2 p.m. MLK Day matinee.
ABOUT THE FLASH
Saint Francis has won three straight coming into Monday's contest, fresh off a 97-88 triumph at Mount Saint Mary's. SFU got balanced scoring on Saturday afternoon, placing three players over 20 points.
Jessica Kovatch (Phillipsburg, N.J./Phillipsburg) led the way with 27 and was joined by
Katie Reese (Boonton Township, N.J./Mountain Lakes (Manhattan)) (24) and
Ace Harrison (Baltimore, MD/Digital Harbor (Maryland)) (21). Kovatch has averaged nearly 20 points per game in NEC play, just edging Anna Niki Stamolamprou of RMU,
Ace Harrison (Baltimore, MD/Digital Harbor (Maryland))'s 16 points per game in the NEC ranks fourth. The SFU defense forced 26 turnovers but managed just 20 points off the miscues. The 97-point outburst upped the Red Flash to 77.4 points per game in conference, nine points better than RMU who ranks second at just over 68. Saint Francis will have to defend the league's top shooting team as RMU is hitting on over 42 percent of their shots both overall and from three. Both teams are on the right side of the turnover margin as SFU enters the game at +4 in conference while RMU is +2. SFU does it by forcing 21 turnovers a game, compared to RMU's 16.
ABOUT RMU
RMU comes into the contest off of two blowout wins over LIU and Wagner. Against LIU, senior Anna Niki Stamolamprou went for 39 points, the top scoring output this season in the NEC and is averaging 19 points per game in conference. Megan Smith is also a force to deal with, averaging 12-7 on the season while hitting over 50 percent of her three pointers. Mikalah Mulrain became the fifth different Colonial to lead the team in scoring this season, as she was a perfect 8-8 from the field in her 18-point effort against Wagner. Look for Janee Brown to pace the offense, she leads the NEC with a near 2:1 assist to turnover ration and is dishing out nearly five helpers per game. The Colonials have won each of the last seven contests in Moon, PA as Saint Francis is looking for its first win in the Sewall Center since 2010-11.
RAINING 3s
With another 12 made threes against the Mount, the Red Flash currently lead the NCAA in threes made per game at 11.4. Jess Kovatch leads the team with a near 4 made threes per game average, a mark that is second in the NCAA. The Flash will look to hit from deep against the Colonials who have allowed NEC foes to hit on 38 percent of their threes through five games.
COUNTDOWN TO 1K
With her 27 points against Mount Saint Mary's, Jess Kovatch has closed to within 18 points of 1000 for her career through 46 career games. She remains on pace to be the fastest to 1,000 in SFU history, the second fastest in NEC history and the earliest to 1,000 in NEC history (sophomore season).
