ABOUT THE RED FLASH
Saint Francis defeated the LIU Brooklyn Blackbirds 66-52 on Saturday afternoon in their NEC home opener. Jessica Kovatch (Phillipsburg, N.J./Phillipsburg) scored 21 points to lead the Red Flash, who won for the first time this season when trailing at the half. SFU over came a 30-29 deficit and held LIU to just 22 second-half points in the victory. The Flash held the Blackbirds to just 29 percent shooting in the victory. SFU used an 11-4 run in the third quarter to break open the game and limited LIU to just nine fourth-quarter points. The victory also marked the fourth time in five years under coach Joe Haigh that the Red Flash won their NEC home opener.

ABOUT THE TERRIERS
SFBK has gotten off to a 2-1 start in NEC play with victories over Bryant at home and Robert Morris on the road. The Terriers overcame an 11-point RMU second-half lead to post a 56-49 win on Saturday. They sport a stout defense that has limited their NEC foes to just 52 points per game, second in the conference behind only Central Connecticut. Olivia Levey leads the offense, averaging 13 points per game. The forward also leads the Terriers in rebounds, grabbing over six boards on the season and over seven in NEC play. The Terriers have also done a better job taking care of the ball in NEC play, turning it over just 13 times per game on average, as opposed to over 20 in non-conference play. Rachel Iozzia leads the offense, dishing out over three assists per game. These two teams are 1-2 in field goal defense with the Terriers owning the top spot, holding teams to just 30 percent shooting so far in NEC play.

COUNTDOWN to 1000
Jessica Kovatch (Phillipsburg, N.J./Phillipsburg) scored 21 points on Saturday, putting the sophomore just 56 points away from 1000 for her career. She is on pace to eclipse the mark in under 50 games, which would be the fastest in SFU history and be top-25 all-time in NCAA history.
