NEW BRITAIN, CT- Kelsey Roush (Johnstown, Pa./Richland) had 14 kills and
Emily Marcinowski (Strongsville, Ohio/Padua Franciscan) had 13 digs and three block assists but the Central Connecticut defense held the SFU offense in check in three sets as CCSU prevailed, 25-17, 25-14, 25-20 on Friday night.

The Red Flash fell to 9-10 overall on the season and 3-3 in the NEC while Central Connecticut is now 11-6 overall and 4-2 in the Northeast Conference.

FIRST SET RECAP

- Central Connecticut forced a SFU timeout after a 5-0 run early in the set put them up 7-2
- A kill and block from Sophia Esposito (Coraopolis, PA/Montour (Gardner-Webb)) got SFU back to within three at 12-9
- The Red Flash would get it to within three on two more occasions in the set but could get no closer
- A 5-1 run by the Blue Devils put them up 19-12 and put the set out of reach
- A pair of Roush kills and another by Lauren Williams (Reno, Nev./Damonte Ranch) made it 23-17, but CCSU closed out the first set at 25-17
SECOND SET RECAP

- The second set started with two runs by each team, SFU erased a 4-1 start by CCSU to tie it at five, paced by a Marcinowski kill and block assist
- The teams traded points until a three-point run by CCSU put them up 11-8 and forced a SFU timeout
- After SFU made it 11-9, the turning point of the set came with a 7-0 Blue Devil run that put them up 18-9 and forced a second SFU timeout
- The Red Flash would close to within five but could get no closer in the set as CCSU took it 25-14

THIRD SET RECAP
- The third set started as a carbon copy of the second with SFU erasing an early CCSU lead with a 4-0 run fueled by kills by Marcinowski and Christa White (Rochester, N.Y./Spencerport)
- The teams traded points once again until a 3-0 CCSU run gave them a 10-7 lead
- The Red Flash hung in the set, cutting it to one on a pair of occasions including at 13-12 off a Marcinowski and Cecilia Esposito (Coraopolis, Pa./Montour) block
- The Blue Devils opened up a 16-12 lead with another 3-0 run, forcing a SFU timeout
- SFU would get to within three on a Marcinowski kill but could get no closer
- A Roush kill would get the Blue Devil lead to four at 24-20 but Morgan Woycik's seventh kill ended the set and the match

LOOKING AHEAD
The Red Flash are back in action tomorrow night at Bryant, who swept Robert Morris on Friday to move to 6-0 in the NEC. First serve is set for 5 p.m.
