Women's Volleyball Falls In Four Sets On Senior Day

LORETTO, Pa. – The Saint Francis Women's Volleyball team fell in four sets against Bryant on Saturday.  SFU dropped a 21-25, 21-25, 25-21, 21-25 decision.  The Red Flash finished the season with a 12-15 record, including 6-8 in the NEC, while Bryant finished the regular season with a 21-11 mark and a 10-3 record in conference.
 
MATCH NOTES
  • Saint Francis honored five seniors before the match as part of Senior Day.
  • Senior Emily Marcinowski had a season-record 24 kills, while Alexis Lambert and Kelsey Roush each had 24.
  • Senior Lauren Williams led SFU with 47 assists, while fellow senior Jenna Veres had 38 kills.
  • Senior Sophia Esposito, sophomore Cecilia Esposito and Marcinowski each assisted on four blocks, with Marcinowski and Sophia adding solo blocks.
  • Julia Flynn led Bryant with 13 kills and added an ace.
 
FIRST SET RECAP
  • Marcinowski led SFU with six kills during the set.
  • Lambert added three kills.
  • SFU opened the set with a 3-1 advantage, with a kill by Marcinowski and a pair of attack errors by the Bulldogs.
  • The teams stayed within a point of each other for most of the set before Bryant found a little separation with a 7-1 run to take a 23-18 lead.
 
SECOND SET RECAP
  • Marcinowski again led the Red Flash with four kills, with Lambert, Sophia Esposito and Lauren Williams each contributing two.
  • Cecilia and Sophia Esposito each assisted on two blocks in the set.
  • 3-1 and 4-0 runs helped Bryant to take a 9-5 lead, but kills by Marcinowski and Williams helped SFU to cut the deficit to 9-8.
  • A 5-1 run extended Bryant's lead to 16-10, its largest of the set.  SFU answered with a 6-2 run, including kills by Lambert and Marcinowski to cut the deficit to 20-18.
 
THIRD SET RECAP
  • Marcinowski paced SFU with seven kills in the set. 
  • Each Esposito had three kills and Kelsey Roush added three.
  • SFU jumped out to a 6-2 lead with two kills by Marcinowski and one by Sophia Esposito. 
  • Bryant closed within two, 10-8, on a kill by Kiley Robbins, but a solo block by Roush put SFU back up by three.
  • The Bulldogs rallied to tie the set at 16, but SFU got six of the next eight points, with a kill by Lambert giving SFU a 22-18 advantage.  A kill by senior Elise Dumouchelle gave SFU an opportunity for set point, which was reached on a block by Marcinowski and Cecilia Esposito.
 
FOURTH SET RECAP
  • Marcinowski led SFU for the fourth straight set with seven kills and two assists on blocks.
  • Bryant took a 6-2 lead early in the set, but SFU battled back to take a 13-12 lead on a kill by Marcinowski, which ended a 4-0 run.
  • A back-and-forth set continued until a kill by Julia Flynn gave Bryant a three-point advantage, 21-18.  Three kills by Marcinowski helped SFU to stay within a couple points, but a kill by Robbins and an attack error by SFU closed out the set and the match.
