LORETTO, Pa.- Saint Francis junior Haley Carroll was named NEC Bowler of the Week for her performance at the three-day Warhawk Classic this past weekend.
Â
Accounting for more than 21.0 pins per frame during both traditional team play and baker competition, Carroll topped all NEC athletes in overall frame average (21.27) at Wisconsin Whitewater's Warhawk Classic. Leading the Red Flash up against a loaded tournament field that featured eight national top-10 programs, Carroll threw 73 strikes in 132 attempts (.553) while accounting for an .886 filled frames percentage.
Â
On Friday, the anchor bowler led the team in baker frame average as the Flash posted a 4-1 record that included victories over No. 11 Wisconsin-Whitewater, No. 13 Monmouth and No. 15 Adelphi. Carroll was equally effective during Saturday's traditional team rounds. Her 213.2 game average ranked 10th overall on the tournament's individual leaderboard. Carroll threw a team-high 213 against No. 4 Vanderbilt. She fired a 257 score in a runaway win over Elmhurst before putting forth a 228-pin performance against Valparaiso. For the weekend, the Western New Yorker knocked down at least nine pins on 81.1 percent of her first-ball shots. Â
Â
"Haley stayed strong throughout the weekend for us," said head coach
Tom Falbo. "The key reason has been her decision-making and mental toughness. It didn't matter if she was on a string of strikes or not, her non-verbal's showed she was going to approach every shot with clarity of what she intended to do and the confidence to then do it. Congratulations to her and her contribution to our team in Kenosha."
Â
The Flash will compete at the UMES Hawk Classic this weekend in Millboro, Del., as this will be its final tournament before NEC conference play on Dec 2 & 3.Â
