Saint Francis defeats Franciscan, 96-54

BOX SCORE Loretto, Pa. - Junior Jamaal King (Salisbury, Md./Bishop O'Connell (Va.)) scored 18 points, junior Andre Wolford (Willowick, Ohio/Saint Ignatius) added 15 and 13 players scored as Saint Francis defeated Franciscan 96-54 on Tuesday night in a tuneup for Friday's game at No. 19 Louisville.

Krimmel's Reaction

"We were a little sloppy to start the game but I am happy with the way the team responded," said head coach Rob Krimmel. "I challenged the guys at the half and our first unit came out focused to start the second half. We will turn our attention to Friday as we have an opportunity to play a top team in a great atmosphere."

Turning Point

Saint Francis led 32-21 with 4:39 to play in the first half before closing the period on a 16-5 run to lead 48-26. Sophomore Keith Braxton (Glassboro, N.J./The Lawrenceville School) scored four of his 12 first-half points during the run.

  • Saint Francis shot 50% or better in each half, finishing the game 35-of-69 from the field (50.7%).
  • Franciscan was held to 33.3% (20-60) shooting from the field. 
  • Saint Francis assisted on a season-high 15 made field goals. King, senior Malik Harmon and junior Scott Meredith (Pilot Mountain, N.C./Hargrave Military Academy (Va.)) led the team with three assists.
  • Saint Francis forced Franciscan into 24 turnovers while committing just nine. The defense led to offense as SFU outscored the Barons 31-6 in points off turnovers and 26 points were scored on the fast break.
  • Points in the paint were 48-20 in favor of Saint Francis.
  • The Red Flash continued to shoot it at a good clip from the line, knocking down 19-of-25 free throws for the game (76.0%).
Notes
  • King and Braxton have scored in double figures in all four games this season and five straight dating back to last season.
  • Sophomore Deivydas Kuzavas notched his first career double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds in 18 minutes. 
  • Wolford came off the bench to hit 3-of-4 three-pointers. His 15 points were his most since scoring 17 vs. Chatham last November. 
  • Senior Deon Baker (Pittsburgh,Pa/Gateway) recorded a career-high eight points, going a perfect 4-4 from the field.
  • Thirteen different players scored points for the Red Flash.
