Flash Points
  • This is game two of the three-game road swing through the west coast
  • The two teams only met once before, 12/30/93 as part of the Red Flash Classic

?PORTLAND, ORE- The Saint Francis Red Flash are set for game two of their three-game west coast swing when they take on the Portland Pilots tomorrow afternoon at the Chiles Center.

Wednesday's tip will be set for 1 p.m. PT and 4 p.m. ET and can be seen on TheW.TV, the streaming platform of the West Coast Conference.

ABOUT THE RED FLASH
The Red Flash are coming off a 97-74 setback at Gonzaga on Sunday afternoon. The Red Flash continued their balance on offense with four players in double figures, led by Jessica Kovatch (Phillipsburg, N.J./Phillipsburg) and Maya Wynn (Reisterstown, Md./McDonogh) who each had 15. With those 15 points, Kovatch became the 10th player in Saint Francis women's basketball history to top 1500 career points. The junior now sits at 1,501 career points and counting. Redshirt freshman Caitlyn Kroll (Bridgeport, Ohio/Bridgeport) had another strong all-around game, scoring 13 points grabbing a team-high five rebounds and dishing out three assists against the Bulldogs en route to her second NEC Rookie of the Week award. Despite the setback, the Red Flash did force 21 turnovers against Gonzaga, the second-highest total of the Bulldogs' season. It was the fifth time this season the Red Flash have forced over 20 turnovers, however, they are 1-4 in those games. Saint Francis struggled against Gonzaga's size, getting out rebounded 54-19 and 64-30 in the paint. The Pilots have good size with nine players over six feet. They currently rank fourth in the West Coast Conference with a plus-5 advantage per game on the glass.

ABOUT THE PILOTS
The Pilots have the same record as the Red Flash, coming into Wednesday's contest with a 4-6 record. They dropped a 91-70 decision at home to Weber State on Sunday. In the loss, the Pilots controlled the low post, winning the rebounding battle 43-31 and out scoring the Wildcats 28-14 in the paint. However, the Wildcats were 13-29 from three-point range and the Pilots have allowed nine made threes per game. That bodes well for the Red Flash who have made at least eight threes in each of their four wins. The Red Flash will have to try and slow down Julie Spencer, the 6-2 junior leads the Pilots in scoring at 11.8 points per game and in rebounds at 7.7. A big key to victory for SFU will be rebounding and defense. The Pilots give up just 33 rebounds per game and have scored at least 71 points in each of their four victories and average 68 points per game.

HOLIDAY SPIRIT
Both staffs will be sporting ugly Christmas sweaters for the contest, look for them on the sidelines!
