FLASH POINTS
- This is the second back-to-back this season for the Red Flash, joining the WNIT earlier this season
- Boise is playing their third game in four nights
- The game wraps up the non-conference for both teams
BOISE, IDAHO- Fresh off one of the most improbable comebacks in Saint Francis and women's basketball history, the Red Flash will look to carry that momentum into tonight's game at Boise State, tip time from Taco Bell Arena is set for 5:30 PM MT and 7:30 PM ET.
ABOUT THE RED FLASH
Records fell in yesterday's 106-101 2OT win at Portland. The Red Flash found themselves down 66-37 with just under five minutes remaining in the third quarter. SFU forced OT with a
Caitlyn Kroll (Bridgeport, Ohio/Bridgeport) put back at the buzzer, the redshirt freshman also beat the buzzer with a deep three to end the third quarter. The 29-point comeback is the second largest in NCAA history, trailing only Texas State's comeback win over UT-San Antonio, the Bobcats trailed 40-8 in 2006 before winning 73-71 in overtime. SFU tied a team record with 23 steals and their 37 forced turnovers are the second-most in school history. Saint Francis now averages 21 forced turnovers per game and nearly 11 steals per contest. Boise averages 18 turnovers per game and turned it over 21 times against CSU-Bakersfield yesterday.Â
Leah Morrow (Columbus, Ohio/Columbus Africentric) shattered her career high with 19 points off the bench for the Red Flash. The freshman scored the first four points of the second overtime as part of a 7-0 run for the Red Flash that proved pivotal in the second overtime. The Red Flash placed five players in double figures and three players (Kovatch, Kroll, Harrison) each average double figures this season. SFU did hit 11 threes on 45 attempts and shoot 26 percent from deep so far this season. That matches what Boise State shoots from deep, but the Broncos are stingy on their three-point defense, as they allow teams to shoot just 27 percent from long range this season.Â
ABOUT THE BRONCOS
Boise State comes into the contest at 5-5 on the season but have dropped their last two games including a 65-59 setback against CSU-Bakersfield yesterday. This will be Boise's third game in four nights to close out the non-conference, they also lost to Washington State on Monday. The Red Flash will look to slow down a balanced Bronco offense that features three players in double figures led by Riley Lupfer, who averages 12 points per game and shoots 36 percent from three. Junior point guard Marta Hermida dishes out nearly six assists per game on top of her 11 points per contest. She's been able to dump the ball inside as the Broncos feature 10 players over 6-feet including all-conference forward Shalen Shaw. The forward is just shy of 10 points per game on 47 percent shooting from the field. The Broncos were picked to win the Mountain West Conference after winning the conference tournament last season.Â
