Flash Points:

NEWARK, N.J. – Michael Fisher (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley (Pepperdine)) had 17 kills and Jeff Hogan (Northern Cambria, Pa./Northern Cambria) recorded 15 kills and added 12 digs, but the Saint Francis men's volleyball team lost if five sets to NJIT in an EIVA matchup on Saturday night at Fleisher Athletic Center. The Highlanders won 25-22, 18-25, 25-22, 25-18 and 15-11.

Saint Francis drops to 4-8 overall and 0-3 in the EIVA, while NJIT improves to 5-5 and 1-1 in the EIVA.

Fisher finished with a match-high 17 kills. Hogan recorded 15 kills and a match-high 12 digs, while Daniel Ford (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) registered 42 assists.

A Keith Kegerries kill made it 7-5 NJIT in the fifth and deciding set. The Highlanders would lead the rest of the way and would take the set, 15-11.  

After NJIT scored the first point of the match, SFU rattled off five unanswered points to take a 5-1 lead. NJIT would response with a 4-0 run to even the set up at 7-7. SFU would trim the NJIT lead to 13-12, but three straight Highlander points would make the score 16-13, and Saint Francis could not overcome the deficit.

The beginning of the second set started with both teams trading points. SFU broke open a 9-9 tie with a 3-0 run to take a 12-9 advantage and never looked back in the match. SFU would takes its largest lead of the set at 20-12. A Fisher kill closed out the set for the Flash, 25-18.

SFU would jump out to a 10-6 lead in the third set, but NJIT raced back to go on a 6-1 run to hold a 17-16 advantage. The set would remain a back-and-fourth battle but SFU would end the set on a 3-0 run to win 25-22.

The Highlanders led wire-to-wire in the fourth set to tie the match at 2-2.

Saint Francis hosts Penn State on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
