LORETTO, PA- The Red Flash earned their 12th NEC victory of the season and defeated FDU 73-64 on Senior Day.

The Red Flash honored seniors Halee Adams (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Bishop Guilfoyle (Sienna)), Taylor Allison (State College, Pa./State College), Samiah Bethel (Jacksonville, Fla./Potter's House Christian Academy) and Katie Reese (Boonton Township, N.J./Mountain Lakes (Manhattan)) in a pre-game ceremony. Reese led three players in double figures with a monster game of 23 points, seven assists and six rebounds. Jessica Kovatch (Phillipsburg, N.J./Phillipsburg) added 22 points seven rebounds and four assists while Courtney Zezza (Plum, Pa./Plum) had 16 points and seven blocks. That gives the sophomore 92 blocks on the season, breaking Cheril Meier's 33 year-old record of 90 set in the 1983-84 season.

The seniors got the Red Flash started as Samiah Bethel (Jacksonville, Fla./Potter's House Christian Academy) drove to the bucket for the game's first basket. Reese added the next five for the Flash as they jumped out to a 7-2 lead. Fairleigh Dickinson would battle back to tie the game at 9 on a three from Courtney Blankenship, the freshman had 12 of her 13 in the first half to pace the Knights. The first quarter would see three more ties as the teams went back-and-forth. The Flash got an and-one from Bethel and a long jumper by Maya Wynn (Reisterstown, Md./McDonogh) to close the quarter and take a 20-19 lead.

The second quarter picked up where the first left off, with three more ties in the first three minutes. A three by Reese put the Red Flash up five, but the Knights would score the next six points to take their first lead of the game. The lead would see-saw back and forth before a four-point play by Kovatch gave SFU a 35-31 lead, a late Zezza  bucket put SFU up 37-31 heading into the locker room.

Saint Francis would hold the Knights at bay in the second half. The Flash opened up a nine-point lead on a Reese three right out of the gate. The Knights would hang in the game as Natalie Zamora got hot from three. She hit a pair to bring FDU back within four. SFU constantly had an answer on Saturday, a Zezza bucket pushed the lead back out to six and another Reese three answered a Amina Markovic bucket to push the lead to seven at the end of the third. The Red Flash led 52-45 heading into the fourth.

FDU scored the first five points of the fourth, closing the game to 52-50. That would be as close as it would get, Harrison split two free throws to jump start a 7-2 run capped by threes from Reese and Kovatch. The Red Flash never let the Knights get closer than six the rest of the way. SFU continued to drive to the basket and worked the ball inside. Lay-ups by Zezza and Kovatch pushed the lead out to double figures. The Red Flash out scored FDU 34-20 in the paint on Saturday. The Red Flash would ice the game from the line by going 6-6 from the foul line late. The Red Flash withstood a heavy FDU pressure defense in the final minutes to secure the win.

The Knights were led by Amina Markovic who recorded her 6th double-double of the season and second against the Red Flash with 16 points and 14 rebounds. Blankenship added 13 but was held to just one in the second half. The Knights had good balance on Saturday with five more players scoring between 6 and 9 points. The three in double figures paced the Red Flash but Ace Harrison (Baltimore, MD/Digital Harbor (Maryland)) added 5 points 7 rebounds 5 steals and 4 assists. Samiah Bethel (Jacksonville, Fla./Potter's House Christian Academy) added 5 points, three rebounds and three assists.

The Flash were out rebounded 49-36 including 27-10 on the offensive glass. FDU owned a 26-15 edge on second-chance points but SFU made up for it with an 18-14 edge off turnovers and 25-5 on the fast break.

The win moves SFU to 15-13 overall and 12-5 in the NEC. They sit a game behind Sacred Heart and Robert Morris for the top spot in the NEC but the win secures at least the three-seed for SFU in the tournament. FDU falls to 8-20 overall and 6-11 in the NEC and can still be anywhere from 6-8 in the NEC tournament. The Red Flash wrap up the regular season on Monday night against Sacred Heart in a game that can be seen on ESPN3. Tip time is set for 7 p.m.
