LORETTO, PA- The Saint Francis Red Flash will host their first post-season game in program history on Sunday, when they host the Wisconsin-Milwaukee Panthers at 2 p.m. in the second round of the Women's Basketball Invitational (WBI).
ABOUT THE RED FLASH
The Red Flash used an attacking defense and balanced offense to earn their first post-season win in 13 tries on Thursday night at Campbell. The Red Flash forced 25 turnovers, leading to 29 points in a 79-67 victory. The 25 forced turnovers marked the 10th time this season SFU has forced at least 25 turnovers. Their 17 steals were the third-most in a game this season.
Ace Harrison (Baltimore, MD/Digital Harbor (Maryland)) had six steals to lead the Red Flash and raised her average to 3.42 steals per game, good for sixth in the nation.
Maya Wynn (Reisterstown, Md./McDonogh) was red-hot from the field, tying a WBIÂ record by going 6-of-8 from three en route to 20 points. SFU had four players in double figures as
Jessica Kovatch (Phillipsburg, N.J./Phillipsburg) (20),
Katie Reese (Boonton Township, N.J./Mountain Lakes (Manhattan)) (14) and
Samiah Bethel (Jacksonville, Fla./Potter's House Christian Academy) (12) aided the balanced attack. Bethel had a season-high five steals while Wynn added a season-high eight rebounds. The Red Flash defense also forced the Camels to go just 5-27 from three, they will need a similar defensive effort against the Panthers, who shoot 35 percent from three as a team.Â
ABOUT THE PANTHERS
The Panthers come into the game at 21-11 on the season and bowed out in the Horizon League semi-finals against UW-Green Bay. UW-Milwaukee outscored the Southern Illinois Salukis by 22 in the second half to pull away for a convincing 81-53 home win on Wednesday to advance in the WBI. The Panthers shot 55 percent as a team, and are one of the better shooting teams in the NCAA, shooting 44 percent from the field, 47th in the nation. Expect a lot of points between these fast-paced teams as UW-M allows teams to shoot 43 percent from the field, 322nd in the nation. The Panthers also do damage on the glass, ranked 24th in the NCAA with a plus-six rebound differential including an average of 13 offensive rebounds per game. Steph Kostowicz leads the team at nearly 16 points and 8 rebounds per game and Jenny Linder adds 15 points and 7 rebounds per game and is one of three players who shoot better than 40 percent from three.
