MOON, PA- Saint Francis women's basketball is set for an in-state showdown with Robert Morris in a battle of 4-0 teams in Northeast Conference play.
Please note that Saturday's game will be played at the North Athletic Complex at Robert Morris due to construction at the Sewell Center.
ABOUT THE MATCHUP
Both teams are coming off a sweep of the Brooklyn schools, but did so in different fashion. The Red Flash got 39 points and a school-record 10 threes from
Jessica Kovatch (Phillipsburg, N.J./Phillipsburg) in a 90-75 win over St. Francis Brooklyn. On Monday night,
Caitlyn Kroll (Bridgeport, Ohio/Bridgeport) went for a career-high 30 in a 101-71 win over LIU Brooklyn. Robert Morris used a 17-3 start on Saturday to knock off LIU 60-53 and used smothering defense to defeat St. Francis Brooklyn 59-36.
These teams lead the NEC in several key categories. The Red Flash lead the way in : points per game (90 ppg), field goal percentage (46%), threes per game (14.3), assists per game(19.8), turnovers forced (22.5) and turnover margin (+9). The Colonials lead the way in scoring defense (53.5 ppg), Opponent FG % (28.6), three point percentage (45.3%), and rebounding 41 per game and +8.5 in rebounding margin. The big key will be the Red Flash defensive pressure (22.5 turnovers forced, 14. 8 steals) versus RMU's rebounding and ability to protect the basketball (15.5 TO/game).
ABOUT THE RED FLASH
Saint Francis has gotten incredible balance this season, with three players averaging in double figures with another three averaging between 7-10 points per game. The Red Flash' ability to spread the ball around with multiple options will be key against a stingy Robert Morris defense.
ABOUT THE COLONIALS
There is no hotter team in the NEC than Robert Morris, who has reeled off nine wins in their last 10 and sits at 11-4 overall. While defense has been their calling card, sharp shooting has paced RMU this season. They have connected on 45 percent of their threes, led by Honoka Ikematsu and Megan Callahan, who connect on better than 58 percent of their attempts so far through four NEC games. Down low, Nneka Ezeigbo and Megan Smith have each averaged 10 points and 7 rebounds per game and Mikalah Mulrain averaged eight points and eight rebounds a contest.
