Wagner defeats SFU, 91-61

BOX SCORE Loretto, Pa. - It was the first ESPN televised game in Loretto for the Saint Francis mens' basketball team (11-9, 5-4 NEC) in 27 years, but Wagner junior Romone Saunders and sophomore Blake Francis stole the show, scoring 30 and 22 points respectively in a 91-61 loss.

Krimmel's Reaction

"First off, I want to thank our students and the community for coming out and creating a terrific atmosphere," said head coach Rob Krimmel. "This was the first time in 20 games where I thought our team spirit was defeated. We didn't match their toughness and when they made some tough shots it broke us. We can't let that happen as a group ever again."

Turning Point

The Red Flash led 6-3 early before the Seahawks went on a 19-4 run to lead 22-10 with 11:18 to play. SFU trimmed the deficit to 41-33 after two free throws by junior Scott Meredith (Pilot Mountain, N.C./Hargrave Military Academy (Va.)) but Wagner ended the half on a 5-0 spurt, capped by a buzzer-beating three-pointer by Saunders, to lead 46-33 at the half.

The Red Flash hung close early in the second half and trailed 53-43 after a baseline jumper by sophomore Randall Gaskins Jr. with 13:51 to go.
