Altoona, Pa. – The Saint Francis bowling team picked up where they left off last week in Kutztown with strong scoring and are leading after Day #1 of the Red Flash Invitational at Holiday Bowl in Altoona, PA. The Red Flash set a strong scoring pace with a total pinfall of 5,059 for the day and had 14 of their 25 games bowled over the 200 mark. As a team the Red Flash averaged 202.4 for the 25 games of Baker.

Britney Grey (Cattaraugus, N.Y./Cattaraugus Little Valley Central ) with a 21.06 frame average.

Haley Carroll (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville South) and
Emma Wrenn (Arlington Heights, ILL. /John Hersey ) also contributed nicely with frame averages of 20.9, 20.61 and 19.04 respectively.

SFU improved to 2-0 on the day after beating Medaille. In what was a competitive match early the Red Flash stayed strong and poured it on in games 2 through 5. Their set consisted of the following games: 183-244-211-222-206.

The Red Flash had one low game of 139 in game #2 in a set that saw 4 strong games to regain their strong scoring pace. A set of 218-139-181-234-188 was enough to capture the win against Felician. The 960 was their lowest scoring set of the day for Saint Francis.

SFU took the loss in this high scoring match despite bowling a fantastic set. Game 2 saw both teams bowl a 266 game with the Red Flash stringing the last 9 strikes in a row. In game 6 and 7 the Red Flash hit the pocket on 18 out of 20 first ball attempts and could not get the carry in game 6. Lincoln Memorial found the look in game 6 to grab a 75 pin lead going into game 5. The Red Flash made a charge finishing with a 226 game to Lincoln Memorial rolling a 171. It came down to a couple shots of carry that could have made the difference, however it was not to be as the Railsplitters took the win.

The Flash improved to 4-1 on the day after defeating their cross town rivals, the Mounties of Mount Aloysius.
The Red Flash lead the field of 17 team with a total pinfall of 5,059, which represents a 202.4 average. Behind them in second is Lincoln Memorial with a total pinfall of 4,850, and NEC rival Caldwell with a 4,636 pinfall.

"We only had 2 days of practice on this pattern. It is a tougher shot, but the great work at practice carried over today. The ladies stayed connected and were able to get comfortable early," said head coach
Tom Falbo. "We have to stay with it, take it one shot at a time and make good reads tomorrow like we did today."
Day two of the Red Flash Invitational resumes tomorrow with five traditional-game matches. Tomorrow will serve as the Spread the Red event for the SFU bowling team and campus community.
