LORETTO, PA- The Red Flash will look to run their win streak to four as they welcome in the Bryant Bulldogs for a 6 p.m. tip on Monday night to wrap the third home NEC weekend of the season.
ABOUT THE RED FLASH
Saint Francis used a 22-2 run that spanned two quarters, including a 15-0 run to start the third quarter to down CCSU 87-59 and improve to 7-1 in the NEC and 12-8 overall. The Red Flash used incredible balance in the victory, placing six players in double figures.
Jessica Kovatch (Phillipsburg, N.J./Phillipsburg) led the way with 17, passing Alexa Hayward for fourth on the school's all-time scoring list in the process.
Karson Swogger (Bellwood, PA/Bellwood-Antis) had a career-high 14 in the victory on 4-8 shooting from three and adding a game-high three steals. The Red Flash proved they can score in a variety of ways on Saturday, shooting 60 percent from two-point range and dominating the Blue Devils inside to the tune of a 46-22 edge in the paint. They'll be tested inside by a Bryant team that has averaged just nine points of their 67 points per game from the outside in conference play and is plus-9 on the glass in conference. The SFU defense forced 17 turnovers, turning them into 23 points and held the Blue Devils to just 32 percent shooting. The Red Flash's vaunted press will pressure a Bryant squad that has averaged 20 turnovers per game this season and had 30 in their loss to Robert Morris.
ABOUT THE BULLDOGS
The Bulldogs saw their five-game NEC win streak snapped by Robert Morris on Saturday in a 72-49 setback. Bryant opened the game on a 9-0 run but Robert Morris turned the tide with a 20-6 advantage in the second quarter. Sydney Holloway led the Bulldogs with 17 points, right at her season average. Naomi Ashley and Hannah Scanlan have upped their scoring into double figures along side Holloway in NEC play. This will be a pure contrast of styles as Bryant averages just over three made threes per game and nobody on their team averages more than one made three per game. Instead, the Bulldogs like to play inside where they have shot 42 percent as a team (compared to just 25 percent from three). Scanlan has been particularly efficient this season, shooting close to 54 percent on the year. The Bulldogs have done a good job limiting teams to just one shot per possession, they are second in the NEC in rebounding and have grabbed 67 percent of their defensive rebounds this season. Scanlan and Holloway have been largely responsible for that, with each averaging over eight rebounds per game.
SERIES HISTORY
This will be the 16th meeting between the teams since Bryant moved up to Division-I and the Northeast Conference. The series has been very even, with Bryant holding a slim 8-7 lead. Home court has been pivotal in the series with SFU going 6-2 on their home turf. The home team has held serve each of the last four meetings and 13 of the 16 overall.
