SFU loses first conference game, 2-0

BOX SCORE Moon Township, Pa. - The Saint Francis women's soccer team (5-7-3, 3-1-1 NEC) lost its first NEC match in its last nine games, falling at Robert Morris (4-11, 2-3 NEC) 2-0 on Saturday.

Turning Point

The Colonials scored two goals in the final seven minutes of the first half to turn a tightly-contested match into a big deficit by halftime.

Highlights
  • Senior Sara Suler (Hermitage, Pa./Hickory) nearly sprung freshman Leanna Choo (Germantown, Md./Northwest) in on goal in the match's early stages but the freshman couldn't get her first touch out of her feet causing the threat to be cleared.
  • Robert Morris came inches away from the game's first goal in the 12th minute but Jane Schleicher rang her shot off the post.
  • The Colonials pounced on an SFU turnover in the 30th minute but were turned away by a breakaway save by redshirt junior Julia Hernan (Collegeville, Pa./The Hill School).
  • Robert Morris scored in the 39th minute when Chelsea Kingston was unaccounted for in the box and slotted home the opportunity.
  • Schleicher doubled the lead in the 42nd minute after an SFU defender slipped. She was able to beat Hernan from eight yards out.
  • SFU generated a few opportunities in the second half but couldn't find a goal. The closest chance was generated from a cross by Choo but it couldn't connect with junior Abigail Tarosky (North Huntington, Pa./Norwin).
